Took some time to look at last years games and JF was without question a great back for us. True frosh who averaged close to 6 yards a carry. Led us in rushing selected Honorable mention frosh all American. Came to cuse after being named the nys Gatorade hs player of the year and is on the academic honor roll at Syracuse. What gives?

Wasn't it reported that he showed up to camp overweight, and out of shape? I imagine Dino was not impressed with his first impression. Dino has publicly stated, that he never has, and never will watch any players tapes from last season. He wants to do his own evaluations with the players running his offense, so last years stats mean nothing to him. If Dino felt that JF was the best back to put out there, based on what he sees at practice every day, then he would, unless he is trying to sabotage his own team, which we all know isn't the case. Is his pass blocking an issue? Is he dropping passes? How is his work ethic? Is he understanding the playbook? Is he making the right calls at the line of scrimmage during practice? We don't know these things, because we don't watch him practice. Dino does though.

I don't understand it either but this one does seem to be a coaches call where he sees the whole picture and makes his decision. I felt the same way about Moore in the past and didn't understand why he didn't play more at RB. There are always reasons we fans have no clue about. Regarding blocking, I've seen Strickland struggle at that as well but I assume Strickland to be a better pass catcher than Fredicks. Maybe DB said "Those who do the work in the off season will play/be rewarded and those who don't won't be." Again...it could be a combo of things as well as I like JF as a back and consider him to be the best on the team when it comes to taking handoffs.

Whenever I read posts like this, and it is not just yours kc, I wonder if people are sitting on their couch thinking "why doesn't Dino get how talented this kid is? Why doesn't Babers like Fredricks?"

The fact that he is not playing, given those credentials from last season, should tell you he is missing something(s) relative to this staff's standards and/or system. Given DB's known MO to date, he is probably not going to share those reasons publicly.

I think it's calling out the blocking assignments, blocking, and pass catching. Also seemed out of shape stuff was being thrown around.
Hadn't thought of the blocking assignments part. That could be a key factor.

I trust HCDB's decision making, so I've stopped wondering about JF.

I don't need to know every reason something happens with the program, but I do want to trust that the coaching staff have done its due diligence, which I assume it has with JF.

Hopefully the kid can work himself back into the rotation.

We can assume two things that it isnt.
1: His ability to run the ball
2: Grades
Because of the fact that he was an honor roll student one could make the assumption JF should be able to learn and retain the assignments.
Which leaves either blocking hands or im not sure.
Sometimes coaches make mistakes. Sometimes kids are "gamers" and without reviewing last years film it would have to be faith without evidence.
I wonder why ATW didnt play at Maryland. Coaches even Dino make mistakes.

If he doesn't transfer, this may be a wake up call to him. He still has two years left to prove himself. If he comes back next year in shape, knows all the plays, works more on pass blocking and catching, he may be our number one back again.

I have also wondered why we haven't seen more of him this season. It is good however that DB is playing those that put in the work. Hopefully this will motivate Jordan to put in more work.

The running backs make all the calls at the line pre-snap. It's been questioned that he struggles at making the correct adjustments. He could be the best back at running the ball, but if he's not making the correct adjustments he could throw the entire offense off. I trust Dino.

How much say does Coach Hart have who plays?

This.

During the Bayor/TX game they were talking about that in those offenses you need a RB who can call the line assignments, as the QB is getting a read on the secondary. If JF isn't getting them lined up right, nothing else matters.

(Side note: our new RB commit is pre-med)

I don't think this is accurate. I am sure those pre-snap line calls are signaled in from the sideline to the RB who then relays them to the line. The RB is not making decisions, he is "only" a relay.

I have been told by Maryland fans, that AET had a problem with drops at critical times. He did play, but wasn't targeted as much once the QB stopped trusting him. If they only knew.

The idea that JF can't get the pre-snap calls right doesn't jive with him being an honor roll student. I must be missing something here. Regardless, I hope things work out for him.

Sometimes fans make mistakes too.

How many of you though Ashton Broyld would win multiple Heismans?

I just thought it would be one and then he'd leave early.

Even if he wasn't 3 years out of HS yet.

I'm sure JF is getting every opportunity to get out there, coach has had no problem working in players during the season. Our running game is a mess so hopefully this gets sorted out before the end of the season.

JF's stats so far this year.

Jordan Fredericks
Carries-19
Yards-117
Ave-6.2
Longest-29
TD's- 0

Easily the highest YPC on the team..except for Estime who has 1 carry.
Except all the carries have come in garbage time of blowouts.

I like Fredericks but if the coaches don't think he should be starting I defer to them. They see him practice every day.

Fredericks was terrific last year, albeit in a different system, and showed that he has a lot of potential.

Seems to me that this might be one of those "coaches sending a message" situations. But like others, I defer to the coaching staff. Just because JF is getting "booheimed" [if that's indeed the case] doesn't mean that he can't turn it around next year.

Babers isn't going to undermine his philosophy and system to accommodate a marginally better talent.

That's new to us, because we haven't had a consistent offensive philosophy and have attempted to mold the philosophy and system to the talent at hand.

I like the Babers way.
