Jimmy Boeheim: Exit Interview

Jimmy is the perfect 12-15 minute guy off the bench to have paired with a Swider, QG and Braswell front court.

It's not his fault it didn't work out that way.
I'm not a subscriber so I can't read the interview, but I completely agree with your point.

By all accounts, everyone in the program are great teammates, who have worked tremendously hard, and really love SU. I feel for them all, because they've been put in a lousy spot, being asked to do more than they should have - whether its playing out of position, or playing too many minutes.

So many of them would have been tremendous pieces on teams from years gone by.

Yep. Jimmy is a microwave guy. He has shown he can do a lot in short windows of time. The perfect offensive bench forward. Braswell was the perfect 3 and D bench forward. QG and Cole are balls to the wall guys who play hard but also have lots of talent. Great starting duo. Again just would have been a great combination that would go well with having KR back.

Jimmy reminds me so much of Mike Hopkins with regards to the intensity and wanting it. I will be shocked if he doesn't go into the family business. He has an intensity that seems to be perfect for coaching.

I don't think so. I think he will go to wall St or something like that and do every well.
Yes the interview indicated his plans right now are to pursue overseas ball and then the business world. Things can change though, of course.

I give Jimmy a ton of credit. He was not put in the easiest position figuratively or literally.
Pros:
-He played hard and cared.
-He had some big games scoring, particularly against Notre Dame and Nova.
-He had that crazy first player to score streak.
Cons:
-His Dad put him in a position to fail by playing him too many minutes so that he got fatigued and resultantly less effective. Plus he is one of the worst back of the zone defenders and rebounders we have had here in some time. Not his fault but the size and lack and athleticism really hurt.
-He took a number of wild shots and showed little interest in passing, especially when driving.
-He inexplicably on frequent occasions shot close to the basket with his right hand when his left hand was more protected from the defender, which made him much easier to defend and less likely to score.
-And the nonstop complaining to the refs got very tiresome.
Overall he was better than I expected coming in rusty and from the Ivy and i appreciate the heart and effort.

If Benny had given us the season that Jimmy has, many folks here would be claiming that he was the next coming of Jordan.

Not remotely true at all. Not to mention one is a true freshman and one is a 5th year senior. So ya, if Benny was putting up those numbers as a true freshman, we would be very excited about what he could turn into. Weird comment.

Laughably stupid. If Bennys D was that bad, he’d be rightfully killed and we’d be praying he’d get better at D or we should recruit over him
production-wise? yes

eye-test-wise and defensivly? hell nah

Until proven otherwise, I’ll always believe he was supposed to be the sixth man behind Swider and Williams.

You simply cannot expect a freshman to be ready on day one, no matter what they’re rated.

Why did JB only go into the season with 3 guards and 3 forwards? He’s the one who messed up with the roster construction and only has himself to blame.

i agree jimmy boeheim jr was put in a tough position by his dad. reality is as stated above he's a 10 minute per game guy thrust into mega minutes. (he's 5th in the ACC). that said what did he do to make his team mates better ? didn't pass a lot . just 4 boards a game . and took a whole lot of shots.(15th in ACC). dirty harry once said "a man has got to know his limitations." imo jimmy tried to play above his.

I think he sacrificed depth for chemistry. He didn’t want any malcontents. It was one of many miscalculations on his part.
