JJ 1-10 from 3

144% THIS.

The net positives of a player like JJ or Bell, are always far outweighed by the massive NET NEGATIVES.

JJ is basically this generation's Buss Patterson, only with an infinite green light and zero repercussions.
and Buss at least was a decent defender -

JJ makes traffic cones and folding chairs look like "the glove" Gary Payton
He's very similar to Tyus Battle offensively, including shooting and efficiency. And we all recall how much Tyus' 3pt shooting frustrated us.

The real difference is Tyus was a very good defender, so regardless of how poor he may shoot, his value was always apparent. JJ doesn't have that.

Shooters need to keep shooting to shoot themselves out of a slump. I think we may be able to turn this season around if JJ can shoot himself out of his slump……
If he took that many bad shots on a DC team he would be in the hospital.

JJ is not a star caliber player for a NCAA tournament caliber team.

He will not get drafted. He has no immediate NBA future. Maybe G league and from there maybe he can improve his outside shot enough to get a sniff.

As for next season, yes, I would take him back if that is in the cards, but unless we get enough talent around him for him to be the third or fourth option then there is no reason to think next season will be any better.

He needs a lot of work in multiple aspects of his game including the handle, D, and most of all his shooting. He would definitely benefit if he played with a better PG.

I'm not defending JJ's performance last night -- at all.

But I wonder if the big collision he was a part mid-way through the first half threw him off his game.

He'd gotten off to a hot start prior to that, and wasn't the same afterwards.

Again, not defending him. He had a ton of bad plays down the stretch.

He's not going to accept a role as a 3rd/4th option. He's not going to be better with a better point guard. His shot selection is awful. His defense is awful.

Agree, unless somehow he could transform himself into a point guard with a laser like focus on distributing and defense, not ball hogging and taking bad shots. At the best he could be a poor mans version of silent G, Gbinije

He took 4 a game his senior year

And he was a way better shooter even though he still wasnt good

34% vs 30% career

Over his last 7 games he's 8/41 (20%) from three and 43/117 overall (37%). During those 7 games he leads Syracuse in 3PA.

Since he returned from his hand injury, he's 26/101 (25.7%) from three.

I didn't see him playing much differently than he has in his career.

Any time Starling does anything but drive to the hoop he should get electro shocks. It’s mind blowing that Red gives his the green light from anywhere on the floor.
He has the green light from anywhere on the floor? Really?

I think JJ and Bell stinking is going to save us a lot of money or more likely cost an another team alot of money, I say good!

2 Seniors that have more experience in the ACC than any other players probably but have not won a single post season game or sniffed the tourney. Terrible Bball IQ , no leadership.

I think if I'm Kline and my job is to come up with an NIL # for them I would be lowballing them and for good reason. I think something that our other staff our inept to do.

What would people pay for JJ or Bell next year for NIL if you were in the GM chair?

As they say in The Godfather this isn't Personal this is Business.

He might, actually.

Heck, Cuffe is 11th on the team in FG % and 8th in 3 pt% and he seems to be able to shoot whenever and wherever he wants. If Red allows that, I'm guessing there are no rules.

He is a LOSING player. Not only shooting us out of the game but the wild out of control drives late in games that he never scores on, when he gets fouled on them he misses the FTs, and complete lack of defense.

We HAVE to move on from him. Let someone else take him.
Missed this post, This needs to be blasted on repeat.

the offense should be trying to get taylor and bell as many shots as possible but cuffe starling and (moore before he transferred) are like hell no

Maybe a stupid question but is there a free site to look at lineup combos?

Has Starling or Carlos every been on the floor with Taylor and Bell? It seems crazy that they aren't on the floor together to provide spacing.

I’m confused by your post. You think he doesn’t? He’s a 27% three point shooter who took TEN 3s last night. That seems like a bright, flashing, top of Tipperary Hill, green light to me.
Who is it, do you think, doesn’t have the green light to shoot an open 3. Autry wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line for his ability to get to the rim. He wants him to drive, get to the rim, finish or draw a foul. His three point shots were open, mostly set up by penetration from Carlos who was great last night at kicking his drives out to open shooters. JJ missed them. Autry still wants pretty much anyone that is open to shoot them . For God’s sake, even Cuffe has a green light to shoot them and has even made a few. Don’t you see that?

Transferred? Is that like your joke?

If Red wants "pretty much anyone that is open to shoot them" then he's an even worse coach than I imagined, and that's saying a lot. Just think about it... if the opposing team is begging your player (in this case JJ) to heave up 3ptrs, don't you think that just might be a bad strategy to oblige?

Nope. If they’re there and open, he has to take them. You’re a fool if you tell him any different.

Sorry dude. The fool is having a guy on your team heave and chuck 10 3s (making only one) when he's a 26% shooter MEANWHILE you have Taylor shooting lights out sitting on the bench.

I haven't seen that anywhere but I haven't looked that hard

JJ is 12 out of 58 (20.7%) from 3 in the last 10 games yet has the green light to shoot whenever he wants.
He probably remembers the multitude of posters on this board acclaiming him an NBA player when he transferred to SU (remember his poor 3pt shooting at ND was supposedly because of injury) - he’s trying not to let you guys down.

To be fair to JJ, I think he shot the 3 pretty well in the second half of last season.

JJ has to be loving it. He doesn't have to guard anyone, has free rein to shoot as often as he wants, and never had to worry about PT.
Modern athletes are too nice. Old school JJ would be getting beat up in the locker room. Gunners who don't guard. Yikes
Thank goodness we have fans who are more concerned about winning than our players.
