Joel Embiid to see back specialist in Los Angeles today

Just wondering how, by NCAA regulations, can Embid be sent to LA for an evaluation? I thought, as a student-athlete, they receive the same treatment as regular students. As others pointed out, there isn't someone in Lawrence that could check him out. I had the same question concerning Noel last year when he was able to get Dr. Andrews to work on him while at UK.

I understand that they should receive the care but isn't this preferential treatment. Where does the extra money come from for the flight, evaluation, Dr. Andrews, etc.

Honestly why should he come back? If it really is something that needs time he needs to take care of himself for the long run. The NBA needs more truly talented centers and I would hate to see his career shorted by coming back too soon.

If he gets drafted ahead of parker or wiggins it might blow up in the face of that team.

The guy is a freaking teenager and has back issues. Not to mention taller than humans are designed to be.

There is a long historical lineage of talented bigs who flame out early due to injury.

Im sure age and added weight that comes with it will do wonders for his back problem.

as a sixers fan, i think about this a lot. i would take either parker or wiggins for sure. i almost want the #2 pick to let someone else take embiid.
