I've been unfortunate enough to watch this guy work the last three MVC tournaments as well as this year's Missouri/Illinois game. The moment I saw him tonight, I knew what kind of game it was going to be. That's how he officiates. He turns every game into a free-throw shooting contest. He's a grandstander and it's disgusting.

The game became more about the officiating than the players.

I'm trying to remember the last time we were involved in a game that was this slanted against us?

A game where players walked on egg shells instead of playing instictivley.

The refs gorged us badly but we had 3-4 silly turnovers & three missed free throws in the last five minutes, things you can't do with a game called like that.

Ugh... Kris is going to have nightmares over his 2 to's in a row.

I agree with this. The officiating was for stuff. But we had plenty of chances over the last four minutes, and we just didn't make enough plays. We could have won DESPITE the atrocious officiating. Hats off to our kids for playing hard. They just came up short today.

This is true, of course. But we also had 3 guys playing with 4 fouls in those last few minutes. They were obviously rattled on both ends of the floor because they were scared to death of picking up another foul. It doesn't excuse a couple of the turnovers, but I don't think it's fair to seperate that entirely from the foul situation.

Scooch--I agree 100% with your perspective on this and the post you made last night. 42 to 25 -- that alone says it all.

The phantom foul on Sullinger, where he tripped and drew a whistle kills me. That came at a critical juncture when we were making our run, and the turnover would have been a huge boon.

The former player in me has trouble blaming a loss--any loss--on refs. But I want to unequivocally state that the refs were ing terrible, and that the NCAA should be embarrassed for that lopsided hatchet job. I just feel like we came really damn close even despite those three blind mice.

But I agree--had the game not been so unbalanced from an officiating standpoint, maybe Dion doesn't have to sit so long, maybe OSU has a few more turnovers instead of being bailed out on several BS calls, etc.

During pregame warmups I checked out the officials to see if I spot any familiar faces as I often do. Turned to Mrs. C and said "Good. No Higgins!" If only I had known....

I'm with ya. I don't know that I've ever come on this site and bitched about officiating. And I have a LOT of posts on this sites, and the ones that came before it! The game was just officiated sooooooo poorly, on both sides, to be fair. And we definitely blew some chances to overcome it. But it sickens me to think that if we put both teams on the floor with a different trio of refs we would see a radically different game. Not necessarily a different result, tOSU is a great team and there was no shame in losing to them. But would've been nice to see us be allowed to give it our best shot.

Another bad call I'd forgotten about was when OSU lost the ball out of bounds, then the officials claimed that it went off SU despite nobody touching it. Then, they went to the monitors to review...only to not review the play. Then they huddled and gave the ball to OSU.

Clueless. Like three blind mice.

The officiating last night was clearly inept and a comedy of errors.

That out of bounds call and the charge call on Triche on a made layup were the two most egregious calls of the night. The Triche foul call was so bad it lede to a rare Boeheim technical.

Reminds me of the URI game. Same deal. Couldn't be near the guy with the ball or else got called for a foul.

...and I have a feeling that the officiating would have been even WORSE and more lopsided if Boeheim HADN'T drawn that technical.

Strategically, that was a great T.

I've never heard the answer to the question: Is John higgins related to Tim Higgins? Are genes involved here?

My favorite Higgins call last night was when an out-of-bounds scramble occurred right in front of him and he asked for help from a ref 20 feet away along the sideline because he didn't know what call to make. The other ref looked at him like "I'm supposed to make that call?"

No relation. I've looked into it before.

Can you believe John Higgins was the crew chief?

I'm still wondering about the 10 second call - shot clock said 24 seconds and they still had not crossed half court when Craft had the ball tippped out of bounds.

Yeah, I have no idea if we win or not with the game being called legit, but it would be much nicer to have found out.

There are 2 horrible games that I can personally recall for free throw shooting disparity. One was when SU played Navy in the NCAA tournament. I was there and it was horrible. My oldest son kept his own scorebook and the people around us kept asking him how many fouls do we have now. Navy took 52 free throws to our 20 free throws. It was absolutely disgusting, they had David Robinson and I guess it was unpatriotic to beat them. There were a total of 53 personal fouls called in that game - 34 on us.

The other one was against Digger Phelps Notre Dame regular season OOC game in 1986 where Digger danced around afterwards at our expense, the recipient of 48 free throws to our 19. It was awful and so frustrating to watch. Grr - Digger and those crappy refs. I feel like SWC and Orangeyes with these stories but I'm not that good at remembering like they are, except for how ticked I was after these 2 games. The Navy game came at a worse time like Ohio St, in the NCAA's, but the Notre Dame game was made even more frustrating by Digger Phelps himself. Someone else has to remember these 2 rotten games.

Another crazy call was when Craft and Scoop tangled along the near sideline, Craft knocked the ball, dribbled it and lost it in the backcourt where the ball was last touched by Craft. They gave the ball to SU but never reset the shotclock so we had only 6 seconds left and had to take a horrible off balance outside 3.

I remember them very well. For a quarter century I have heard how we lost to Navy because we had no answer for David Robinosn. We beat that team by 22 during the regular season. That game was all aobut the free throw discrepancy, which was far worse than last night's. The Notre Dame game was the same thing. Even considering bad defesne and intentional fouling at the end of a game, those discrepancies were out of line.

Hadn't they called a timeout after getting trapped or was that a different play? If it was the one they called a timeout during then the ten second count is reset.

Joseph got called for a block when he was going up for a rebound and Craft jumped on top of him to get the ball. Joseph was in perfect position for the rebound and got called for being in Craft's way. Ridiculous.

No. It was the one from early in the first half where Craft threw the ball from about 5 feet behind the midcourt line and it was tapped out of bounds and the clock was at 24 seconds. There wa sno time out involved.

All I know is my alma mater Mercer University is playing in the CollegeInsider.com tourney final on Wed night and my head is going to explode if I see these any of these assclowns trotting out on the court. That's how bad they are, not even good enough for the CollegeInsider.com tourney final! Yes being in that final is a big deal for a school like Mercer :)

I can't forget that game. It was so poorly officiated that you had an acid stomach by the end of the game and then vomited in your mouth when Digger did his little jigg.

Anybody remember what happened to Raf Addison in this game? He only played 15 minutes, didn't score and got "T" up. BTW I checked, neither Higgins reffed that game(Burr either)
