Class of 2023 Joseph "JP" Estrella (ME / Brewster) Portal from Tennessee

In making the case for Estrella if healthy, one of the big things for me is the different sets you can run with him given his skillset. The work around the post in this tape shows me he can absolutely be a bucket getter. I do think he needs to get stronger and his health has to be something that isn’t an ongoing worry. I also think he can defend the rim better than he’s shown given he’s a decent athlete.

Wow, more athletic than I thought. Nice range on his shot too.

I’m gonna stick with the team I laid out in the other thread with one more kid who is a shot blocker from maybe a smaller school as the ideal squad with Estrella and Wilkinson the big gets. I really think that team would play hard, have some alphas and space the floor well. Whether it’s doable with our budget is another matter.

To me you could sell both the big targets on the potential of the team, a packed dome and a team full of guys that want to win and will do all the small things to do so.

He is a really solid player been hurt with injuries. Not a massive block shot guy would be my knock from watching him play at Tennessee the last couple of years.
Great take. Rick Barnes played him at the four quite a bit because he’s not a great shot blocker. Granted he had Felix Okpara to play at the five.

The ability to play the 4 makes him even more intriguing. I like his offensive skill set at the 4 and the 5. The foot surgery that caused him to miss most of last season, and then soreness issues in the same foot at the end of this season is the downside risk here.

Just need to bring in a bruiser type to play with him and provide some rim protection

We're going after the wrong Tennessee big. Jaylen Carey please

He’s 6-7 and a forward. He also has never played more than 20 mins a game due to getting winded. He is as proficient in blocking shots as Dry Rub Eddie was.

Wondering what the total NIL was for the 4 teams in the final four.
Even though it's protected information, can't believe it can't be
available.
Michigan and UConn had above average NIL but it wasn’t crazy Kentucky and Duke like numbers. We can compete with what they have.

I don't want Estrella either.

If the numbers for him are accurate he’s not anywhere worth 3 mil plus so might be a moot point if IU wants to pay that much. That said if we aren’t in on Hines then the C options get thin real quick.

If he was getting 3 million from Indiana he would have signed already

Maybe…last I saw he is still one of the top 10-15 overall ranked in the portal to date…with that ranking commanding top dollar is absolutely something his agent will push.

Sylla from Georgia Tech is out there. He’s about as good as Hines, but missed a large portion of the season with an ankle injury.

his price is being driven by the lack of great bigs, which im sure you realize.
