Class of 2023 Joseph "JP" Estrella (ME / Brewster) Portal from Tennessee

Not quite equivalent. Everyone had Yaxel in the Big 10 POY discussion before the season. And Mara came from UCLA, not exactly a mid-major. Some people here remember the enthusiasm for Carlos, Davis and Taylor and are simply suggesting caution.
I wasn’t discussing Yaxel. I was discussing Morez Johnson. And we are not signing any of the current guys we signed outside of maybe Doty to be starters. I don’t get why this is difficult for some to understand. We are building the back end first so we know how much cap space we have left to go all in at center and point.

And point stands that everyone here was excited about JJ and George when they signed as current starters and they were terrible. The biggest reason we stunk this year.

JJ needed to step down or be a 6th man and have a specific role. George was a lot to do with coaching and system. Both hurt us because of the mismatch
I don’t even think he was worthy of that the last season and a half.

Idk if this is a hot take, but I think it's really hard to evaluate players in Red's system or lack thereof. JJ might have been a completely different player in a system that gave players any idea of what to do.

FWIW, it doesn't sound like we're considered a real player here, at least based on public reporting. Maybe we're keeping it quiet, but I'll believe it when I see it.
I have no inside knowledge, but I know Gmac. He know the type of player he wants. If $$$ available aloes him to get who he want great. If not he will fill those rolls by committee. He has a plan. Frankie say Relax.

Good lord by this sentence you wouldn’t have taken the starting center and power forward from the National Championship team.
Good lord, I actually wrote three sentences, not one. Yaxel was the number one rated player in the portal last year. I promise you that I would not be adverse to SU bringing in the top player in the portal regardless of if they started or not. I have never once stated that I don't think SU should bring in bench players. My concern is that that is all that we'll bring in. Jaquan Carlos was supposed to come to SU as a backup but ended up starting because they didn't bring in another point guard. Call me jaded. Call me scarred. I'll just feel better when SU eventually (hopefully) brings in players that are ready to produce at a P4 level. It would be a bonus if they have a bit of a history of already having done it.

EDIT- I see that you were referring to Johnson, a part time starter who had 3 double-doubles in his lone year at Illinois. Why would I not want a player like that on my team?

Paragraphs. Please.

If you want to argue an issue with JJs development then sure but a lot of his issues were his game. He doesn’t have the skillset to be a P4 starter. He was put in a role too big for him and just wasn’t a winning player on the court.

Fielder shot 40.9% from 3 last season.

I think we might end up with a PG who is good defensively and can run the offense, but is not a good outside shooter.

If that happens, we need another outside scooter or two. Fielder would help here.

I suspect Doty and White are going to be around 35% from 3 as well. Add Fielder and things look a lot better offensively.

There will be pressure on Morano to be a reliable outside shooter and I dislike that. But he appears to be the real deal and I think we will be far more effective setting picks and getting guys open for outside shots with GMac coaching.

If not Fielder, we need someone else who can shoot from the outside. Someone established. I think a stretch 4 makes the most sense (assuming we can’t get a PG who can shoot the 3 well).
Last year Moesch shot 44% from 3 and 50% from 3 during the playoffs for Cushing Academy.

Nait George and Nate Kingz both absolutely had shown they had produced at this level. Why are you skipping back to Carlos?

I wasn't disappointed with either of those players being added. Both had started at a high level. I wish it had worked out better. Could've been a coaching fail or a system fail. We'll never know. Carlos hadn't played at a high level and was specifically brought to be a bench player, but turned into a starter due to no one else being brought in at the one. I guess I'd rather see a top down approach by bringing in starters and then filling the bench instead of the other way around.

You specifically called out Melancer for mentioning a bench player.

The board was ecstatic when JJ Starling and chance Westry committed. It don’t work. It didn’t work with Carlos either. Maybe Red was just bad. Gmac isn’t Red.

We still need about 5 players including at least two starters. Maybe take a breath.

My breathing is fine. You seem to be the one getting all worked up. I responded to his post, I didn't "call him out" as you stated. I agree that we still need to bring in more players. Possibly more than 5, but that might be sufficient. I'd love to see starters brought in at center, point guard, and maybe a strong outside shooter at the 2 or 3.

Estrella is an ascending talent. And, he is going to get paid like one. I'd be thrilled to get him.

If the injury risk is now low I’d say we should pay up but really worry about overpaying for a kid with an injury history. That said healthy and full go … yeah big time talent here.

That risk is real. I'd still take him in a heartbeat. He has Michigan vibe in terms of what they are looking for - size and skill set.

When you compare his stats and Per 40 numbers, I am convinced.

He would be a big producer with starter's minutes.

Surrounding him with Sadiq, Folefac, the Aussie from Siena where there is legit depth and help as matchups play out helps too. A shot blocker as a late add would help too.

I don't think we'll ultimately get him, but there's a big man that we've reached out to that I think is kinda flying under the radar that I would personally love to get. Seems like he's viewed more as the first big off the bench but I think he's more than that personally.

Will not be taking any questions at this time :)
Can you atleast tell me who to start this week in fantasy EPL? 😎😉

FOR SURE. It's funny -- this feels like Hunter Dickinson all over again to me. And given that they just won the natty, it would be hard not to envision him landing there, if they come up with the money.
