Class of 2023 Joseph "JP" Estrella (ME / Brewster) Portal from Tennessee

Fielder shot 40.9% from 3 last season.

I think we might end up with a PG who is good defensively and can run the offense, but is not a good outside shooter.

If that happens, we need another outside scooter or two. Fielder would help here.

I suspect Doty and White are going to be around 35% from 3 as well. Add Fielder and things look a lot better offensively.

There will be pressure on Morano to be a reliable outside shooter and I dislike that. But he appears to be the real deal and I think we will be far more effective setting picks and getting guys open for outside shots with GMac coaching.

If not Fielder, we need someone else who can shoot from the outside. Someone established. I think a stretch 4 makes the most sense (assuming we can’t get a PG who can shoot the 3 well).
Riley Allenspach from GMU; that’s my guess for stretch 4

Pair him with Frank Mitchell from the Bonnies

Interesting names. I wonder what kind of NIL $$$ they would command.

Both of those guys can play -- just not sure about how effective they'd be at ACC level, but we could do a LOT worse for mid-level cost guys.

Mitchell really struggled moving from Canisius to Minny before having a good year coming back down to the Bonnies. That year in Minn gives me pause..

Mitchell would be the affordable option but the person I really want for the position opposite Allenspach is Jaylen Carey

Carey offers nothing defensively and is inefficient offensively which I touched on yesterday with a 49 pct TS % ( vs Sadiq at 57 and Folefac at 56 last year) , 2 blocks the entire year. He can rebound and use his body against slimmer bigs but overall he’s a bit fools gold given his frame.

You pair him with Allenspach and any team with a decent big inside will have a field day around the rim.

I hear you. But the program was in shambles under the last head coach. Kind of like Red, where the wheels were falling off.

One thing that CAN'T be disputed -- Mitchell can rebound. He rebounded at Minnesota, too, in limited / backup minutes.

He’s another one of those guys that has to play along side a bigger bodied and more athletic center to be affective.

That’s true and fair. If we go big and hit a HR at guard this could be a reasonable option assuming he gets a waiver…

Also a guy you don’t want out there playing 25 plus a game given he can’t shoot it and the need to play the 4 not the 5.

And to be clear, I'd prefer a taller player at center -- but as a bargain basement option, we could do worse.

He's averaged a double-double in 2 of his 3 seasons [admittedly, both at lower levels, although the last season was in the A10]. Would rather have Estrella. Would also rather roll the dice on Gillhool. But we could do worse than Mitchell.

This is surprising in the sense that no one had it early. Late push by Michigan i guess. Why wouldn’t a big go there if they were offered?
