JRS is the real deal

Who made the secondary block on JRS second TD just when he caught the ball? It was fantastic.

I have watched too much Mountain West football living out here. I have been so bullish on JRS providing a physical presence at WR that this team desperately needs. When healthy, he's also a legit deep threat. Great game from him and hope he keeps getting healthier.
Me too. Colorado is my second home and I follow CU and CSU . JRS is very talented. Big strong and fast. If he had been healthy I believe he would be our top receiver hands down.

Hatcher is clearly hurt now.. I dont think he would have played at all except we need some bodies out there.

Gill will learn from his mistakes and Hatcher just has a lot of quit in him on plays like that and has been that way all year. As coach says u teach it that way or u allow it and they are allowing it. This kid needs to aquire a lot of dog in his game cause he could be a player. Drives me nuts when a kid has talent and doesnt use it 1000%.

Hatcher is a redshirt junior, he is what he is at this point.
I just find that to be an interesting statement considering the same statement could have been made about Pena, and yet here we are with him as our leading WR putting up a 54/592/5 TDs receiving/1 TD rushing stat line so far this season.

I don’t think that play was PI. The ball was thrown to a spot and Hatcher slowed his route down instead of running through the route. Had he kept running full speed through the route he would be where the trajectory of the ball was going to land. He didn’t, which allowed the defender to then become the receiver on the play and the defender then used his arms and body to put himself in better position to catch the ball. If Hatcher keeps running his route and actually tried to make a play and then the defender put his hands on him, then I think you might have seen PI called. We saw them call it at least twice in the game. That play wasn’t PI though, that INT was all on Hatcher for the two big reasons I stated above.

Hatcher needs to get stronger, and his play will improve.

Agreed.

Hatcher and Gill shouldn't play anymore as well. JRS is great big body good route runner solid set of hands. We get another year of him right?
Like others before this post I disagree with your assessment. Gill and Hatcher are important parts of our receiving corps and have provided us with positive play and catches that have helped us move the ball towards the end zone. I would not give up on them just yet.

Pena has struggled with injury. Hatcher struggles with caloric intake. I don't want Hatcher booted to the portal, but I think he's a second string WR at the P4 level and might end up there next season if Fran brings in another class of talented portal/hs receivers.

JRS looks like hes about 60%. He was clearly limping on the run. But he looks the part. Hatcher’s nickname could be the toothpick. He couldnt beat out a guy that was 6 inches shorter than him and couldn’t even knock the ball away.

He's the 5th receiving option behind Pena/Meeks/Gadsden/Allen but has a starting spot because we don't have anybody else on the roster that plays his role. He's basically what you described.

But this idea that he can't improve or get better is just wrong. We're seeing Pena make a leap. We saw Sales make a leap. We saw Custis make a leap.

I just don't understand this mentality that guys can't improve through their entire college career.

I actually think Gill has high upside. He made a mistake yesterday but he has made some good catches this year and will be a solid guy going forward. I wrote off Hatcher at the beginning of the year as a Damian Alford type. Disappears for games and then makes a big play and everyone buys back in. Hatcher will never be a go to guy. His measurables jump off the page, but the fight of say a Meeks is lacking significantly.

Ok, is it just me or does he run a little weird? On his long TD he looked to have an unusual gallop.

It's so weird that we have fans that are so willing to give up on guys like this.

They don't make every play, but they do make plays that have contributed to winning. And they're developing, they're not finished products.
Hatcher has been here for a while and has shown that he’s soft, it’s not a small sample size. Nothing against him, Not everyone has the dna to be a fighter.

I'm not saying he's AET out there and you can just lob it out to him.

I am saying that we don't seem to have anyone else that even seems capable of running that route and getting in position to try and make that play.

While i don’t think Hatcher should be tossed to the scrap heap, the comparison with Peña is not a good one, as Peña has dealt with a ton of injury issues. The best comparison to Hatcher is Alford. As in, not enough good plays to offset the bad.

Let's not act like health was Pena's only issue though. General sentiment was he was a guy with a little wiggle that would make a play once in a while but would never be a featured part of the offense.

And now he's our top WR and go-to guy to move the chains.

Supposing he had been healthy throughout his career, would we have anticipated that? I humbly submit we would not have.

Fair enough.

Coach Fran said it was not a mere hamstring strain, but a hamstring dislocation. No clue what that means but Fran said much worse than a mere strain.
He also said he was only 80% going into the game.
if we could have him at 100% it would bring a new dimension to our game, especially if Haynes returns and gets back to how good he was before.

We did have that person but he was lost in the phantom zone
