So, I'll leave the player evaluations to coaches like CIL or Money, who know what they are looking at with respect to game film.
But I don't think that looking at the offer list and worrying that this prospect isn't P5 caliber doesn't make sense, because Tony White has earned the benefit of the doubt given how the DL performed these past two years. Quality and depth. We have one need, for a "bigger" DT who can serve as a run plugger, but still do the things we need him to do in a 3-3-5, mobility wise.
This kid is "bigger." There's no reason to think that White would go out and recruit a warm body -- the goal is to get a player who can contribute and challenge for a spot in the two-deep.
This kid might not be the only option that they are pursuing [or will pursue] at DT, either. But them being on him so early implies that they view him as a system fit. The film makes it seem like he has pretty good speed for a player that size, and he's got that Samoan build, so maybe he is.
All year [and even dating back to last off-season], posters were clamoring for them to go out and add size at DT. Now, they're doing it and people still complain.
