Class of 2023 JUCO WR Carmelo D Taylor (VA/PA) Offered

With this guy getting an offer, plus the PSU guy who went to Washington, makes me wonder if we either already are missing someone from the WR room we are not aware of or the staff thinks someone or two is leaving in the spring. I mean staff could just be pushing competition but seems like have a pretty strong room already. Either way interesting offer.

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Congratulations to Lackawanna College football student-athlete CARMELO TAYLOR (Roanoke, VA) who was named the eleventh Lackawanna College Athlete of the Week for the 2024-2025 scholastic year! Tihs is Carmelo's second time being named AOTW.
Carmelo was back in the lineup for the Falcons this week, after nearly a month away due to injury, and his play was a big reason why the #9 Falcons were able to keep it close with the #2 Georgia Military College Bulldogs. With his team down 35-14 early in the fourth quarter, after GMC had just hit a 69-yard touchdown run to start the final frame, Taylor showed why he was so highly touted coming into the season. Quarterback Wyatt Hagan (Chantilly, VA) chucked the ball down the right sideline, as Carmelo burned past two defenders. Carmelo caught the ball in stride and raced 75 yards for the touchdown that served to spark the Falcons. Later, trailing 35-20 with a little under six minutes to go, Taylor struck again. This time, Hagan threw a quick ten-yard slant to the speedster. Taylor slipped a tackle, accelerated past two more would-be tacklers, then hit the afterburners for another 75-yard touchdown that truly made the Falcons believe. Lackawanna would fall just short, 35-33, missing a field goal as time expired. Taylor finished the game with three catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Due to injuries, he had just eleven catches this season, but managed to turn six of them into touchdowns for 359 yards.

He was a 4 star 92 rating by 247 coming out of HS. Played a couple games with no catches for PSU in his 2023 redshirt freshman year against OSU and IU. Listed on Lackawanna roster as 6'-0" 165 lbs. Appears to be pretty tough and physical for his size and he uses his body well to hold off defenders down field. Looked like he did mostly go routes at Lackawanna, but has a larger highlight film from HS that displays more. Likely needs more work on his route tree but he is not just a straight line speed kid as he has a good amount of shiftiness and play making ability to him as well. Is good with the ball in his hands. I could see him playing on the outside or the slot. Assuming he can add 10 or more lbs of muscle, seems like he could be a high potential add. Has 3 years left. After redshirting a year at PSU and a year playing at Lackawanna it seems like it could be a good use of a scholarship to get him in his more productive years but still with plenty of eligibility left. I assume he is 3 to play 3

His 11 rec for 359 yds and 6 TD's at Lackawanna stats were in just 6 games which is pretty impressive for a redshirt freshman. That was good for 3rd on the team and likely would have lead the team if he played 10 games. They didn't pass it all that much and only had 1913 receiving yds for the team on the season.

Agree with hoping this doesn't mean Zeed will not be returning. With this offer It does seem like that could be a stronger possibility now.

Does his year at JC count?

Why? We've been targeting portal WRs the entire winter, including having one committed that went elsewhere.
