Just a Reminder RE: Last Season's Offense...

When I see HBack i think Half-back as in the primary ball carrier, when did HBack become the new term for slot receiver because that's exactly what the same thing was called 30 years ago wasn't it?
Exactly.

Yep. That's why all the hand-wringing about "doing crazy stuff with the offense" is silly talk. There are a bunch of ways to be successful and a bunch of terms to describe the same thing.

I think not having McDonald call plays like we did the first half of the season and then not being around disgruntled the second half of the season has to be addition by subtraction.

if he spoke of little trains that could-

i would be demanding a dna test with gerg robinson and mcdonald

got no luck of the irish when those 2 get hired in the same decade

"You go back to like the 3rd and 1, 4th and 1 and you're like, '***, if I would've... I should've..., but when you're in the flow, you're like, '*** it, here we go: Let's run this and this.'" McDonald said. "And if it works, you're like 'That was a great call.' And if it doesn't work, you're like, 'That wasn't a good call.' And that's kind of how calling plays works."

Hmm...he stole that strategy from me!

There's no such thing as an HBack. It's a way for a coach to describe a wideout differently. That's all. Drives me nuts.
not any more. maybe 10 years ago, yes. but now they're like a short TE/tall fullback

Thankfully we have 3 winnable games to start the season...I'll reserve my judgment on the offense until the 4th game is played.

Exactly. I'm cautiously optimistic and hopeful.

Please re-read these two articles from last year:

http://www.syracuse.com/orangefootb...ead_coach_scott_shafer_wouldnt_have_come.html

http://www.syracuse.com/orangefootball/index.ssf/2014/10/george_mcdonald_play_calling.html
This guy was directing the offense last year. Is there any wonder why it failed?

A few quotes just to jog everyone's memory:

"If I would've known I was only going to get 18 games to be offensive coordinator, I would've stayed at the University of Arkansas," McDonald said on Tuesday night. "I would've never came here."

Lester may not be the answer to everyone's prayers, but I'm thankful McDonald has hit the road.

I still am dumbfounded by T. Hunt's comments this spring that the offense did not know the play book and was the master of nothing in 2014.

I'm no scientist, but his observations reflect the product of bad coaching.

I was very happy when Coach McDonald was hired. I was very disappointed in the way his situation was handled last fall. I wish him all the best and believe that he will eventually succeed as an OC.

But last year was an unmitigated failure.

Today's article on Hunt's work in California gives me renewed hope that we will see solid QB play in the Dome this fall.

Lets hope.

I don't think he'll be anything more than a WR coach for a long, long time.

I was concerned when he was fired. Only because his strength was supposed to be recruiting. Doesn't look as though we will miss him at all the way this staff is on the recruiting front . Good riddance

Reminds me of how I play Xbox.

No way. I guarantee you aren't that short sighted. Even in video games, you call plays and already have your next 3 plays in mind.
