Just a reminder

The Syracuse program is bigger than any player, any coach, any athletic director.

Watch this video which has been linked before and remember our history, tradition and take pride in your loyalty to Syracuse Football.

All true, and an important point to keep in mind.

Still, Marrone was an ideal coach in a lot of respects. He's an alumnus who resurrected school traditions (including flipping banners at Varsity and singing the alma mater after games) and really cared about things other that football (taking the team to Syracuse Stage a couple years ago was very cool, very un-football, and only the tip of the iceberg as far as his "life skills" program went).

He got us into New York in a big way; this was a move of necessity (we needed recruits and don't have an advantage in New Jersey and other important states), but also a smart one - kids who play football three months a year have a ton of potential. Subjectively (and this is, of course, a bit of a generalization), they also have a certain demeanor that plays well on the football field. Love the Swaggercuse stuff.

And, while none of us agreed with all of his coaching decisions, Marrone is anything but a generic football meathead. He's an introspective, well-spoken guy. Hope he enjoyed his time here. He'll be missed, and we'll be fortunate if Syracuse's next hire incorporates some of these practices and shares some of these attributes.
