Just curious as to what the football experts predicted for our 1987 season after going 5-6 in 1986!

clearly, this wasnt the case.

granted undefeated is 1 thing, but they were basically ranked all year and rose pretty quickly, top 10 by mid Oct.

in other words...expectations were high, warranted and fulfilled.
no, pre-season #33, not horrible, but not nearly the season we had. Expectations were not high, we would love to be #33 now, but in the past 33 was not a high expectation.

on a National level, you are right...nobody in 1987 would be giving 2nd thoughts to the 33rd ranked team who hadnt really done squat since 1967.

but i would imagine that would give the locals something to hang their hats on get excited about.

edit: maybe SWC has something concrete on this??...

Seems odd that we'd even be #33. That's either a statement about how few college football teams were actually good, or a nice long hangover from the Cherry Bowl appearance.

They had us going 12-0 and the -ED that one up too:noidea: Those dam national pundits never get it right,do they?

I was optimistic. Heading into my Jr. year and still in possession of a full head of hair.

I was so confident that we would beat PSU, I bought tickets for 2 lifelong friends who were big Paternoists and brought them up to campus so they could experience things first hand. Of course - I forced them to sit in the PSU section so I was not able to see their faces when Rob Moore took it to the house.

For me, a newbie to the 'rivalry', it was nothing more than justice for what had happened with Roland Grimes in 85.
