Just how close was the ACC to imploading?

None of this is shocking North Carolina is the King of the ACC and as long as they are committed to the ACC the conference will survive and flourish. North Carolina controls the ACC and while Florida State football drives the bus for the most important sport FSU is blocked by Florida from getting into the SEC which they would jump to in a minute. The B1G and FSU don't make sense so FSU is stuck until Florida would allow them in the SEC. North Carolina has no interest being in a Yankee conference run by Ohio State and Michigan and while the academia at UNC would like the B1G the fanbase would HATE the B1G and would prefer the SEC if they had to move, but again the SEC doesn't interest UNC right now. As long as UNC is happy in the ACC the conference is fine and while a minority in the UNC fanbase may prefer the SEC they are undoubtedly loyal to the ACC as they are the Kings of the conference. The ACC has given Florida State a little more power and influence to keep them happy but this will always be the North Carolina conference. UVA, UNC, Duke are all linked together those teams will stay together the tradition and loyalty among those schools will never waiver over a couple million of dollars as long as they are in the black and comfortable they won't go Maryland. Just keep UNC happy throw FSU a couple of bones and the ACC is fine.

It's a little terrifying that some of these guys read blogs and panic just like everyone else. How the conversation should have gone.

This guy from outkickthecoverage.com says the footprint is changing and we're doomed!

What on earth is outkickthecoverage.com?

It's Clay Travis!

Who's Clay Travis?

He's the SEC's #1 fanboy.

Why are we still talking? And how exactly did you get this job?

hard to get the real story without reading his emails in their entirety. Who cares about the lunatic fans that buy the media frenzy hook line and sinker. It reminds me of everybody raiding the grocery store because the storm of the century is coming, only to be a dud.

In reading the blurbs from the decision makers they all had their together.

The key thing to remember in all this madness when and if it ever starts up again is that UNC and UVa will not do anything that will make the ACC implode, i.e., we will not make the first move, period, end of story. That being said, we will have a soft place to land.

Fans were close to imploding, the decision makers not so much.

I'm sure there have been times when I've wanted to send that kind of e-mail to the powers-that-be, but the article highlights how dopey that kind of behavior is.

The recent graduates who took the time to write to the AD come off as arrogant and presumptuous. As if he needs their input (and needs to spend his workday responding to that kind of stuff). In the end, much ado about nothing.

Fanbases everywhere are paranoid and delusional...UNC being left behind is pretty funny, and utterly impossible to happen.

This has more stereotypes than Carter's has liver pills and hysterically has an element of truth. As long as Texas stays in BIG XII there will be a BIG XII and likewise as long as UNC is in ACC, ACC will exist. We are going nowhere. UVA, UNC, and dook are joined at hip and will not move without the other. The delusionals at mooU <ncsu> can't go anywhere. WFU is too small. And with the football success this year in ACC we are stronger than ever. Glad you all and PITT are a part of a great conference. GO HEELS!!

Just looking at the top 25 standings - Big12 is way down this year and besides Baylor they all look far weaker than last year. ACC with 3 teams in top 10 says a lot about how strong the ACC is this year. Even VT looks stronger this year - add in Lville and you have 4 teams in top 10 in ACC. Nice!

Yeah, I am speaking in boiled down terms, but its pretty easy to read the situation and tell it the way it is. The ACC can't lose UNC or FSU. FSU is more willingly to move, but the SEC doesn't have interest in them, and UNC is happy with its situation as long as the ACC is fine, and its obvious UNC, Duke, UVA are all attached it to each other and won't leave each other.

Read how administrators talk about realignment... and then think about those who suggested that realignment was part of some meticulously-crafted, decades-in-the-making, long game.

"than Carter's has liver pills"
Gee, you are as old as I am! (BTW they are Carter's Little Liver Pills.)

That would have been a hilarious FOI document.

This year, yes. The ACC needs to do more winning than they have in recent years.

I would call it an "Urban Legend" but given the fact that WVU fans were the biggest ACC doomsayers in all of this, I guess I'll have to call it a "Backwoods Legend."

...told over illegal campfires burning illegally grown cannabis (and couches) with a few bottles of outlawed shine...and the road kill of the day.

How about that? We went from "imploding" to being potentially the second best football conference behind the SEC (w Louisville in the fold). Someone else went to being a doorstop in the Big 12...right DUDE?

I would put the top 3 ACC teams against the top BIG, PAC and Big12 teams right now. They are not any better or worse than we are at the top.

Not sure what one has to do with the other.

Really?

Everytime emails like this become public we see administrators careening around, reacting to the latest news with hastily concocted paths forward.

There's a huge difference between seeing the writing on the wall years ago that larger conferences were inevitable, and believing every step along the way has been carefully orchestrated. It hasn't. At all.

I'm going to write a book about Oklahoma's move to the Big Ten when that's announced.

My sources tell me it's imminent.
Don't write that book yet.

Its pretty fluid, it may happen though, unless something changes that is

I agree. While neither you or your rodent were right, you definitely deserve props for sticking to your guns in those days about the big conferences eventually expanding beyond 12. And no, it didn't require a bunch of cigar smoking good ole boys to sit and plan it over single malts.. it was just a matter of predicting the economics of it all. Well done.

Not sure who wold be doing some undercover orchestration especially in the ACC. They had been in survival mode and weren't considered one of the big boys. Just know that even just 5 years ago most doubted things wold even be where they are now. I've always said 4x16 and I remember everyone ripping that. I remember saying the big schools wold break from the NCAA. Just last week a school admin said 5x16 someday. But no matter exactly how anything ends, it is fact that a very few thought that mega conferences with league championships (then a playoff) would ever happen.

When they actually Do go to the B1G, we're going to sit here and laugh our asses off.
