Kadary Richmond: Wizards G League

Played his first NBA minutes a couple of nights ago for the Wizards. Really happy for him. He deserves it.

I ran into Kadary last summer at a hotel in DC. He was there working out with the Wizards summer league team. I told him I was a diehard cuse fan and we Had a nice conversation. I told him that Cuse fans were rooting for him and he said “I never wanted to leave, I loved it there, but the coach was difficult”.

Getting more minutes than 99% of the other freshman in multiple decades prior is a pretty tough situation to be in, to his credit.

Vibes. The idea that Kadary wasn’t getting a fair shot at playing time or the playing time he deserved was laughable then and laughable now.

Both things can be true. Kadary was super talented and boeheim should not have been so stubborn and told him he would be the PG. we would have been better with Kadary at the point.

At the same time, Kadary played 25 a game and was an out of shape Frosh who did not want to listen to his coach when he told him not to shoot threes (because he stunk at it) It took Kadary several years to mature as he admitted. He became a very good College player and would have helped us. Boeheim’s stubbornness was not as effective when college hoops changed the transfer rules.

Good luck to Kadary in the g league but I don’t think rehashing any of this is going to change anyone’s mind.

My favorite Kadary SU moment was the 2021 second round game vs WVU when JB was forced to bring KR off the bench at the end since nobody else could get the ball over halfcourt when WVU was pressing.

Kadary’s playing time had nothing to do with daddy ball. It was between Kadary and Girard and we were talking about a difference of like 5 minutes per game.

Kadary couldn’t shoot. He was an okay distributor at that point but also turnover prone. His defense was not a plus at any point that season. Occasionally gambled on steals and it would work out. Notably, the team never performed appreciably better with him on the court than off.

Call it spin if you want. I saw the games. We can all see the stats.

Using stats as the only criteria to assess this situation is both shortsighted, and mind numbingly obtuse. And honestly, after what went down, KR probably felt he couldn't trust JB or maybe just wanted out- irrespective of any "stats" that were being presented
It's not a coincidence that the vast majority of observers, fans and otherwise, share the view that KR was a victim of "Daddy Ball". You choose to believe otherwise, and/or die on the "stats is all that matters" hill, then kudos...good point.
Stats are a factor, obviously, but not the be-all/end-all as you're suggesting.
