According to Scowwwwwt's Bill Greene, the new coaching staff will include another member of Babers' Bowling Green staff. Tom Kaufman will serve as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator with the Orange.

Kaufman was also with Babers at Eastern Illinois, where he coached linebackers. He coached defensive line at Bowling Green.

Prior to that, Kaufman was a quality control coach at Texas and Kansas after spending one season as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State.

Kaufman will recruit Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania for Syracuse.

I looked up Kaufman when the Baber's rumor was looking for real and came away real impressed. One of my bone of contentions since Coach P left has been the lack of quality special teams play. And not having a dedicated coach for the unit. I suppose Cassullo was but we all know how that worked out. This last season was a little bit better but for years (the last 5-7) i could never grasp why WR's and DB's (Ben Lewis sticks out) were asked to form wedge-like formations on KO returns. The most innovative ST move this year was putting Morris on KO coverage (aside from the various #DixonForHeisman novelties). Estime is just as good if not better than Spotwood and it's a shame he isn't getting the same kind of results.

He's irreplaceable. Better than Pat O'Neill and Rob Long.
Irreplaceable? No one on a team that has performed as badly as this team has over three years is irreplaceable. Especially the freaking punter who was ranked 27th in the country.

I really worry for Texas A&M as they are losing their punter and he led the country. I'm not an A&M fan but I hate to see any program collapse because they lose their punter.

And Bowling Green's punter was ranked 7th so perhaps he transfers in with Dino and saves the SU program.

Hey OrangeXtreme could you possibly tack a list above for coaching staff as it gets filled? If not thats cool Just would be easier to find. A few players and parents have asked so I figured if I could direct them to it, could be easier.

In his frosh year he didn't really return punts or kicks and he ended up having the most important run back of the last 15 years at texas bowl.
In his soph year he was hurt in the high ankle area. (LBI)
Last year he was 2nd in the nation in PR avg with 2 TD

What kind of results would you like to see?

LOL - Jek you sneaky bastage.

Sure thing. I'm running a little behind this morning, power was out in the neighborhood and just came back on a few minutes ago.

If those "rankings" only consider average punt distance, I think that's a pretty incomplete way of ranking a punter.

Our specials were excellent this year including punt and kick coverage. Norton was excellent on kickoffs and Brislys success and what Riley pulled off with fakes and kicks inside the 20; we had a great year.

Special Teams were our most consistent group. Dixon saved two games and almost saved another (but we lost on a phantom late hit out of bounds). Without Estime and Dixon we probably get one win.

According to reports, Norton was not as excellent at kickoffs as his coaches would have liked him to be.

Still unbelievable to me that the same exact thing happened twice in consecutive weeks. Mindboggling.

Would you guys say he had as much of an impact on Special Teams as Quinton Spotwood did? That's the kind of results I'd like to see. I'm not sure your ages and if you intently watched during those years or not but every single time Spotwood was on the field, there was a hum, a buzz if you will, that something was going to happen. I don't get that feeling from Bris. I applaud his threat, and national statistics from this year (which can be misleading; i think we'd all agree on that) and the Texas Bowl most valuable play, but his skill set is better than Spotwood's and I'd like to see him have the same impact.
