Kemba vs GMac (BET performances)

Last I checked Depaul is in the BE, fields a basketball team, AND someone kept score of their games.
We always complain about folks diminishing our record because of the teams we've played- how is it any different if we downplay Kemba's run because they played "an extra game vs Depaul"? Just sayin...:noidea:

I don't think the Depaul game should be the single determining factor in comparing the two runs is all I was saying - if you want to call that "downplaying", so be it. Whether that makes me personally a hypocrite, I don't know. I know I've never complained about a 4-0 team being ranked ahead of 5-0 team because they played one less game.

No, its not the single determining factor but its not chopped liver either. The fact that it was 5 games in 5 consecutive days in a tournament scenario, definitely makes it significant. Just the fact of having to play that extra game, no matter the opponent, added to the mental/physical fatigue factor.
Before GMac's run no one had ever done 4 in 4 days. Kemba's run took that rare feat, and upped it.
IMO, that puts it on a higher level.

Kemba's was better... by a long-shot.
It was 5 games in 5 days instead of GMac's 4, with a team of underclassmen, and he "finished" the fairytale by winning the whole shebang. I always hated the fact that we lost in the 1st round that year- it sorta diminished the BET run, IMO.
The fact that Kemba won those 5 games, and then defied conventional wisdom by not being "tired" and winning the NC, made his feat that much better.

Or you could say the best team in the country (team that won the NC) won the Big East title on the back of their best player. Probably not an uncommon accomplishment. A relatively poor Syracuse team won on the back of GMAC - small town boy from Scranton that hits a bunch of miracle shots at Madison Square Garden.

GMAC's performance is better in a theatrical way. I think people who pick GMac are talking about that, it was better theatre. Kemba's performance in purely basketball terms was better though.

Yes. Better theater or drama, yes. Better basketball no.

Was Kemba Walker overrated? Because the actual story is the expected performance vs the unexpected from a recently maligned player.

The only thing I remember about Kemba Walker is that he graduated from a "University" without opening a book.

So he made some big shots obviously. Awesome moments no doubt. You can't tell me that GMac had a better tourney than Kemba. That's ridiculous. Wasn't UConn on the bubble too? Can't remember.

I think, by definition, UConn was on the bubble last year, at least coming in to the BET. They played 5 games, which means they played the first day, which means they were at best #9 in the BE. Had they lost the first round, they were likely out, maybe even the second.

So let's all be objective - it enhances one's credibility. Though it may be apples and Orange, Kemba's BET last year was PF awesome. It's really not important whose performance was "best". But let's give credit where credit is due.

And I will admit, once my pool was busted, I was rooting for UConn to win the NCAA's, because that was better for us - recruiting, exposure, legitimacy, everything. Let's face it, if UConn didn't win last year, the Big East REALLY would have been a bust in the Dance.

Im fairly certain they were not on the bubble last year. You cant just look at where they finished in the big east and assume they were on the bubble cuz they finished 9th. They were undefeated in non-conference and had a bunch of good wins.

Ok I just looked up the ap poll and they were ranked #21 heading into the BET last year.

You are indeed correct. Thanks.

Is this really a debate? I love GMac and the 2006 run was amazing, but Kemba and Co. topped it and thensome.

11>4 BET&NCAA>BET

Duh?

Wasn't talking about NCAA. Simply the BET.
