Kenny Carter dismissed from program

Chris Clark is a completely different situation and not at all someone you want on your roster.
It's a shame how talented individuals find a way to decrease their own value. You're never more valuable than the program, never. Trying to leverage that will put you in a bad place.

Use the program and resources at the University to better yourself, it's a mutually beneficial relationship if done correctly.

I thought that Shafer was recruiting all high character guys, and he didn't want someone like Chris Clark being a bad influence. I get that there are 85 guys on the roster so you're going to have your bad eggs, but we're having quite the off season.
Geez, it seems like an alarming number of the kids our coaches have taken chances on have done something stupid and blown the opportunity.

Sherrod, I hope you don't do the same.

Kenny Carter was a B list developmental player Schafer took a flyer on. He committed to Syracuse a few days before signing day with no other offers. And from what I understand, he only got the offer at the 12th hour because other targets had gone elsewhere.

Kid may have been nothing more than a warm body depth or no depth.

It’s clear to me that if you’re not up to snuff and break the new rules you’re out door. This isn’t Marrone level wholesale changes but I still expect a few more departures between now and June.

*Who was the starting defensive tackle that Marrone booted the night before the spring game? kid from NJ if memory serves?

Double standards aren't exactly team building...erects a wall between Baber's kids and Shafers kids. They are ALL Baber's kids now and should be treated the same!

I guess I take into account that we're all human and it's only natural to feel more invested in something/someone you've put time and effort into that something/someone you haven't.

Ideals make great soundbites but they rarely play out in the real world.

Lamar Middleton?

Here's an interesting DO article from 2010 discussing the player dismissals/transfers after Marrone took over.

Knowing the situation I would have taken a chance on him without even thinking twice. Obviously, I would have a serious talk with him, and made him aware he will get no 2nd chances, but other than that I don't see the reason for not taking a 2nd chance on a 19 year old kid? Our cross division rival didn't seem to have a problem.

I'd really like it if someone can PM me the true Clark story

TIA

He was an absolute disaster at UCLA and with the things I heard I don't want him ANYWHERE near our program. Let him tear apart the Pitt locker room, because they'll be good next season.
