Ok, I’ve seen the recent post where he’s called Buddy a pro. That’s cool and all. I love positive pub for Cuse players, but the guy’s got a level of pretentious douchebaggery going on when he tries to relate to the current game. This is not verbatim, mostly because I don’t have DRV, but here’s what I can’t stand. How many times does he have to refer to himself as being a player on a number one (seed) Carolina team or being an All-American guard? The last reference I saw earlier tonight seemed like a stretch as he seemingly tried to downplay his All-American status by saying that he realized that he had to suit up every night because guards are everywhere. I don’t know, I guess this is a rant against the halftime crew. Being king of turd mountain just doesn’t matter after a period of time, especially when the game has changed so much!

Kenny is one of the best nba analysts in history and part of the best studio show of all time in any sport

but yes, he doesn’t know college basketball like internet posters
...which as has been stated repeatedly, is not the point of him and Charles on the show

I haven't seen much of Kenny and Charles this year for whatever reason. I don't know how they have been lately, but when they first started covering the tournament, they were terribly bad. It was a huge miscalculation to puts guys on there who were NBA centric. They clearly looked down on the tournament and college basketball in general. They approached it like a cute curiosity which really didn't mean all that much. Huge mistake - on the one hand, you have the die hard college fans which are more attached to this than most professional fans are - especially with the stakes of the NCAA Tournament, players careers are ending in every single game and on the other hand, you have CBS who paid a cool billion for this property. Probably not in the best interests to then diminish, ridicule, and minimize through an arrogant attitude and total lack of preparation.

So Kenny and/or Charles harkening back their college days is actually welcome in my mind. At least they are trying to make some connection to what is happening.

I think his point on him being an AA was that there is little difference between guards at that level, regardless of how the are ranked.
He also gave a wonderful tribute to Pearl, so he will always be a favorite of mine.

Kenny and the tnt are great at what they do but what is the point of force feeding them to us in March? They are NBA guys it's what they do. I don't see the NFL on CBS guys covering the college football playoff.

because they are trying to get casual fans to watch the product.
college football doesn’t have that problem

get it?

To watch the NCAA tournament? Everyone watches it. My mom watches it and she could care less about bball. They don't need the gimmick.

Kenny is great with the NBA, not so good with college hoops. Having the NBA TNT crew do college hoops is so stupid. None of them know much about it - how could they? Their job is to watch and talk about the NBA every night.

That said, I think Kenny is a genuine good guy.

And they did a phenomenal tribute to Pearl during one of their typical NBA nights when he passed.

Ha, I should’ve kept reading before I posted that tribute. Yeah if you saw that tribute before, you’d never forget it.

saves the network money to reuse them instead of hiring a seperate team for something they really only cover for a few weeks.

if they started broadcasting more games i would see them spring for a new team, but since turner's time covering college is so limited it's just not financially viable.

in the case of CBS they're showing college football all year long so it makes sense to have two teams.

I agree with you that they're trying to rope in the casual fan. They know that all of us here are going to tune in regardless. And this applies to nearly all major sports not just college hoops.

Unfortunately we as serious fans have to wade through the tedious or annoying aspects of this reach out to the casual fan. The sideline reporter would be a good example. Most of the time they add nothing to the equation. Another example is where they equate star power with effective broadcasting analysis. Chris Webber fits that bill. I'd rather listen to a guy that was never a star but knows his stuff and can effectively communicate. Same thing with the halftime shows.
