Kenpom rankings out

We will be better than #29.

It would be nice, wouldn't it?
I hope he plays enough guys to keep them all engaged.
I want to see them all able to contribute.

Haven't really dug in to preseason like I usually do because it's hard to trust that the season will actually be completely played, but some interesting things stand out to me this year.

The media thinks last year was just a blip for UVA and UNC. KenPom isn't as sold based on the metrics. In fact it would appear the media is overrating UNC. I think UVA will be good, but that all depends if they get their act together on offense.

I think Syracuse is placed just right at 6, but I could see us outplaying our preseason ranking if we really get it together. I could also see us finishing 10th. The bottom line is there will be no powerhouse ACC team this year unless someone comes out of nowhere. I know people assume Duke will just roll out the ball and be good like usual, but this isn't a season where K has guaranteed superstars on the roster. He will actually have to build a team.
I think the thought process behind UVA is that their defense is going to be their defense and Sam Hauser is a major step-up from anybody they had last season. I didn't watch much Marquette two years ago but I watched some highlights last night and he seems legit.

Agreed on your K point and I've been convinced that he is far from his peak for a couple years now so my fingers are crossed that we get a Duke down year.

I think our ceiling is a double bye in the ACCT and our floor is playing the first day. I'm all in on the ceiling though, especially seeing that advanced stats like us.

- I think our experience and adding Griffin more than makeup for losing Eli.
- Griffin/Buddy/JG3 is the best shooting trio in the country
- If Kadary is half as good as he's being talked about we have our best third guard in years
- Beefed up Bourama and Marek should be able to avoid foul trouble. Hopefully Marek is ready to be aggressive on offense too, there's not many guys in college hoops who can guard him inside and out.
- If Jesse or Frank can contribute real minutes in the ACC we have solid front court depth and can avoid playing Doley at the 5 against guys like Garrison Brooks who are just monsters.

There's scenarios where we are worse than last season but I think those are less likely to happen than making the tourney. Staying healthy and playing even slightly better than last season are the keys.

I'm just ready for Friday so it can start to feel somewhat like college hoops season
