Kentucky's news conference starting any minute. 'Cats expected to lose top seven scorers from 38-1 team that lost to Wisconsin in semis.

So Willie Cauley-Stein, Karl Anthony Towns, Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison, Trey Lyles, Devin Booker, and Dakari Johnson are all leaving.

Kentucky will get back Tyler Ulis, Alex Poythress and Marques Lee though.

Towns will be the only really legit NBA player of the bunch, WCS might turn out to be ok.

Just watch many of the top non-committed players now flock to UK. Ugh. Going to be very hard to repeat what they did this last season though. They are loosing some very good players.

Lyles may wind up better than Towns in the long run. Certainly better than any of those other guys IMO. He more than anyone on that team was hampered by all the talent. Had he been the focal point of an offense somewhere else on a good team he'd have been a beast IMO.

Kentucky was special this year because of WCS's defense. The team had no elite guard play, but WCS's length paired with Lyles and Towns made it practically impossible to score on them in the paint. UK will be good next year, but their defense will dip and teams will be able to score on them more freely now.

The fact Karl-Anthony Towns is a top 2 pick just shows how weak the feeder system into the NBA has become. This kid showed potential but when I watched him play I didn't think oh my please tank the season for Towns or Okafor. I get the kid declaring how can turn down 15 million for 3 years, but when I saw Towns I saw rare version of Al Horford. Horford stayed in school 3 years and has become a real solid player, but not a franchise guy.

Interesting take, Towns looks like the best pro prospect by far to me. Rim protector, nice low post game and can step out and hit a jump shot

I don't think you guys are disagreeing that much. He's saying Towns being the 2nd pick shows that the system isn't that good for the NBA and kids get the benefit of the doubt based on POTENTIAL. I agree that towns COULD certainly be a slightly bigger Horford type player but it will take some years and should that type of guy be the 2nd pick in the draft? I think you guys both may be correct here but then again what do I know.

After a more careful reading of the post, I agree I wouldn't purposely tank for any of these guys.

For 1 game, would this Kentucky team be more effective in man-2-man, or a Boeheim coached 2-3 (let's say they practiced it all year for arguments sake)?

Uncommitted players all waiting to be selected by Kentucky. Every year now that's the way it will be unless something changes.

If Kentucky played JB's 2-3 zone it wouldn't help them. WCS is such a beast as an on the ball defender. Also, since they would be guarding zones they would be more vulnerable on the glass even with their height. We aren't ever going to see JB switch, but this UK team was so dominant defensively m2m I wouldn't play zone with them. They had 2 rim protectors minimum at all times that it took jumpshots to beat them.

This is why I wonder why anyone would think JC even NEEDS to cheat.
I think he's certainly pushing the absolute limits of what's allowable, but I don't think he has to pull the same kind of shenanigans he did at UMass and Memphis. Just it being Kentucky means he has much deeper pockets to work with for added benefits (e.g., the dorm, practice facility, top notch staff, NCAA liason) as well as much more pliable college administration. I'm 99% sure he has no internal turf wars with the administration or academic departments.

Added to that is the fact that he brings a huge amount of NBA eyeballs to UK games and because he's taking the 5-8 of the top 30 recruits every single year makes it easier for kids who are planning on going pro. Come to UK for a year if you're want to play in the NBA, we'll make it easy for you to fulfill your dream. His current system will crash as soon as the NBA gets rid of the stupid rule that encourages one and dones.

I'd say he's certainly violating the spirit, but not the letter of the law...if that makes sense.

What about academic eligibility? How is it that in his time there they haven't had a single instance of a player possibly being ineligible? And APR? It's just not possible.

I would love to see the 2nd semester transcripts of all of these guys. I agree with you but somehow they must be towing the line. You would think the NCAA would have a satellite office in Lexington.

At the very least, he probably makes sure his players' papers are cited properly.
