The more I think about it, the less it makes sense. You’re down 16 at OSU’s 9 yd line. You know you need 2 TDs. If they hit the FG, they’d still need 2 TDs.
By kicking, you’re betting on your D. Aren’t you betting on them more by going for the TD? Whether you turnover on downs or take the FG, you’re still down 2 TDs. You’re basically just giving ND the ball on the 25 (had they hit the FG) rather than the 9. Basically, being down 13 is no different than being down 16. The fact that they stopped OSU so quickly only further highlights the stupidity.
