It was frustrating because we had already scored. Sideline judge was lazy on his call if Dungey's run.

I didn't mind the FG call. Not enough to get upset about anyway.

The pooch punt, because it was Coach Mac day and because Dungey got a great bounce was one that I was happy worked out. But at the time I wished we went for it. We were at their 37, needed less than a yard. Coaches rely on how an oblong ball made of pigskin will bounce. Might as well flip a coin. I think odds say they will start at the 20. And odds are better that we get that half yard. Control your destiny.

But again, love that it worked out.

To read this board you woukd think SU lost the game. Many aren't comfortable with succes the team is having. They want to nit pick anything negative that they can.

They would have started at the 2 yard line. Let them go 60 yards and kick a FG that would kill time. Wake missed a 50 yd FG they would have had to go 65 yards with 1 TO to even get in FG range.
By going up 13 we kicked off and gave them field position of the 30 yard line.

No brainer to me. You take the 3 points and keep the momentum. This makes them need 2 TD's in a small amount of time which is much more difficult. You go for it and who knows if we get it or not. If we don't and they feel like they have gained a little bit of momentum and only need a TD and FG to tie it. That ain't good.

I'm not complaining because obviously the outcome of the game turned out great, but I'm just curious what people think about the strategic decision to kick the field goal up 10 at the end of the game.

Would it have been a greater risk/reward to go for it on 4th down from the 2 yard line, potentially go up 17 which would have been game over, and worst case scenario make Wake go 99 yards the other way? Because two TDs still beat you and you always run the risk of the kick getting blocked.

Just curious if others felt the same way at that particular moment.

Dungey got in to the end zone, so we were actually up 34-17.

Is this a serious post. I've read almost every post since the game ended and have seen almost nothing negative. Posts like these are getting really ridiculous. Even ringo or whatever his name is that was incredibly negative after the RI game hasn't commented.

I was yelling from my seat What are you doing. FG right there does absolutely nothing for you except run the risk of getting blocked. Going up 13 is pointless at that point. Only bad can happen from that. These are the small mistakes HCSS continues to make, and most of them have to do with being overly over the top conservative.

Good topic, some good answers...I go like 4 different ways on this, to make the call in real time must be tough...I'd say make it a 13 point game if you like your FG unit and win the game.

Complete nonsense. To question a coach's decision is part of the game. And to say many aren't comfortable with the success the team is having is foolish. I love Syracuse but a win against Rhode Island and Wake isn't any reason to get to high.

ya and when you pump it in from a half yard away it's 3 td's and it's completely over with no risk of completely botching the game with a blocked fg. Shafer's conservative play is rubbing off on you guys.
