KingJoseph Edwards Appreciation Thread

Love his skill set but let’s not get carried away. One sack was a TE screen that was poorly executed by HC. Second was a RPO where the HC QB made a terrible read.

He will be a good one in time. But his body is not nearly ready to be an every down player for this team.
Agree with your take here. He was mostly in the right place at the right time, but not like he was destroying the tackle or anything.

How many tackles and or sacks did Diggs get yesterday?

why does that have to be a factor? DEnds aren’t destroying our tackles either they’re just running around them. Sometimes quick is better than big and not quick.

there is a package spot for KJE but then Robinson is going to have to change up some things.

Don’t tell me that is was only against Holy Cross. Our starters were playing against Holy Cross too and were less impactful than KJE. He needs PT, we have no pass rush and he brings that!
I had my binoculars on Diggs a lot of the game. One blocker almost half his size contained him all day.

I don’t disagree with you. We had a few players with a similar size/skill set that transferred out, and he fills a need. I’m all for giving him snaps on 3rd and long. I was just agreeing with a poster who broke down his sacks, and said he was not ready to be an every down player. did not say he didn’t play well or deserve snaps. I did not see rips, spins, swims, bull rush, or speed rush that jump off the page. Did see a quick guy with ability to track down the qb and tackle him, which as many have said, has been missing with others.

He doesn’t fit in the 3 man DLine. He’s too skinny, he’d get creamed in the running game. So I think, 3rd down pass rush specialist except we only rush 3. So they better figure it out.

He’s quick, he has a knack for it and his one play of being disciplined was excellent.
In defenseof the the fourman line, the 3 man line should be shelved unless we also blitzing 3 backers.

We have people souring on his debut? Wth is going on around here? Imagine if he didn't do anything...

Some people just really want this coach to fail it feels and anything good is always paired with a “but”

Here’s what I saw, a kid who got subbed in with the ones come in and put pressure on the qb every single play he played and got 3 sacks.

I watched the whole game before that and watched our “star” DE not even get penetration.

KJE will absolutely get more run time and if he doesn’t it’s a crime

Agree. I was impressed by his spin and other moves. Even on the blown up tight end screen he did a good job containing and going up to jump first to disrupt a pass. He got the sack because of his athleticism. Of course he’s not big enough to be an every down guy but you can tell he has athleticism. And he looks like he’s already getting stronger from arriving to school early. He’s bigger than he was in the spring game.

I don’t know how you interpreted that as “coach to fail” but you do you.

He has talent. But two sacks were on poorly executed plays by Holy Cross. He still made the play. It was the equivalent of hitting wide open threes against Lemoyne up 30 with 5 minutes left.

I hope he becomes a great one for us and breaks every sack record we have. His frame isn’t ready to go up against ACC peers on an every down basis.

Agreed. Huge positive to see but a different game when team is down 20 plus and in obvious passing situations . I’d expect he would be in 3rd down situations going forward

NONE. He seemed to have disappeared. Either the coaches didn't think he needed to hurry, rush ,sack the QB. He was not in the backfield as he has been perhaps for another reason, their plan.

Seeing KJE in the backfield with the HCQB at his feet was a breath of fresh air. They decided to see what he could do.

Edwards is listed on the roster at cuse.com at 6'4" 225.

But, HUDL has all his measurables starting at 6'5" 230/ 4.5 40/ VJ 33/ BP 285/ and SQ 405. Those are very good physical stats. He is very quick, agile and showed a lot of strength in his 3 sacks. His lower body is very muscled and developed. His upper body could use more weight room work to add muscle strength. Look at his new profile pic OX posted above.

For comparison sake Dwight Freeney was a true, edge rusher. At SU he played at 6' 7/8" 255 had a VJ of 40" and a 4.40 40 the fastest 40 of any DLman ever recorded.. For the Colts at 270, he measured the same height, 4.48 40, 40" VJ.

HCFB's revelation to me seems to say I want him to do what he is supposed to do the way he is supposed to do it which is now, otherwise they wouldn't have put him in. Screw the RShirt Freshman year and let him play or we'll lose him in the portal. The kid has lots of skills and now that he's doing things correctly put him in. Third down occasionally. Let him play and see what he can do.

I counted at least 6 times Diggs was blatantly held where otherwise he probably would have made a play. One one play he was tackled by two Holy Cross players. I’m not worried about Diggs as long as the refereeing evens out at some point.

I will preface by saying I am a KJE fan. I think he played as good he, or anyone anyone else could have, in the 3 sack opportunities he had. I am extremely hesitant to even post this because of the way a few people responded towards some posters observations of the sacks, (again, their observations, not criticisms of KJE).

sometimes in real speed things look different, and you only see the result Of the play. If you slow things down and see what really happened often times it looks much different. I posted earlier that I thought he was in the right place at the right time.

Sack number one, the tight end chips on him and then goes out to block for a screen pass. Our secondary sniffs it out, has both the tight end and the running back covered. The quarterback looks up and sees this and with no Plan B, just eats the ball. KJE was given a free run at the quarterback, who did not try to evade.

Sack number two, KJE comes off the edge totally unblocked. It was a blocking assignment error by Holy Cross. What KJE did a great job of here (and what probably some of our other defensive ends would not have done) is he slowed down, broke down, and made sure the quarterback could not evade contain, (which happens all the time on plays like this). Great job here but he had a free run.

third sack, quarterback is running to the right and number 28 gets into the backfield first. Quarterback changes direction and runs right into KJE. I believe Watson was the third player there. Any of the three could’ve gotten that sack, the quarterback just chose to change direction and run right into KJE rather than Watson or 28. A very nice play, but nothing special.

so again, I love KJE, I love KJE, I love KJE, Just validating what a few other posters said about the sacks. Based on his speed and his demonstrated ability to break down and play under control, (in this small sample size), he would be the guy I would want in on third and long.

Again, (not that he’s not capable of it), but I did not see any swims, rips, speed rushes, or spins. As far as bull rushing, he did a nice job getting into the offensive lineman, eyes in the backfield, and did not get too far up field and always kept himself in the play, which not all of our ends consistently do.
