Honestly thrilled for the win, desperately needed !

Gotta ask Nate K 19 first half, looked like taking charge as our leader. 2nd half(haven’t looked at stats) limited touches. Just a suggestion, but how about the double pick pin down that got Buddy open? NK seems ideal for that at least 5 times a game.

I think Kyle is tremendous, but why not offense/ defense in final 25 seconds or so? Taking nothing away from his huge effort, I think should have had better FT shooters in the game on O.

Anyway, awesome win!

I am totally fine not running any sets for Kingz, that isn't the type of player he is. He is a catch-and-shoot player or a catch-and-drive player off of someone else's initial creation. My problem with Kingz getting nothing in the second half goes back to our point guard and our undisciplined offense. Our lead guards and creators have to have the discipline to know who the hot people are and drive and kick to them or find them on the break. Some of that is on Red to install that discipline, some of that is on our terrible lead guard play.

When a player has a really good first half, it is common for them to have a slow second half. The defense tightens down on you and unless you are just unstoppable offensively its usually not a smart idea to try to bull your way through increased defensive attention when other guys are more open. Kingz is not the type of talent you want to force feed.

Part of the issue there is that when George drives against a good defender he gets shut down so bad that the rest of the defense has no reason to move off of a guy like Kingz. Can't drive and kick effectively if the drive is useless. One of Kingz only actual catch and shoot moments was off a nice drive and skip pass from JJ.

There is definitely a coaching element, but I’ll say this - it’s something in basketball in general that has really, really annoyed me over the years, even when I played. When a guy is hot and in his rhythm, the players have to have enough hoop IQ to get him the ball and let him keep cooking. You just have to.

So many times you see a guy get hot, and then he doesn’t even get a touch for 4–5 straight possessions. That can’t happen. And it’s not just a Syracuse thing - it’s something that has always annoyed me every time I see it, lol.

Great analysis though, completely agree!

I have to say, it was pretty shocking that the guy went for 19 in the first half, and then they didn't bother getting the ball to him in the 2nd half.

Now, some of that is game flow. But wouldn't you think that the team would be interested in getting the ball to the guy with the hot hand?

Not complaining -- happy we got the "W" -- but it does seem strange.

It’s actually been something we saw at times under JB his last few years , minus Buddy to be fair, but with some others.

Agreed. Not running plays for a guy is fine, but when he touches it just a handful of times it confuses me. This isn’t the first time we’ve had this issue with him even touching the ball.

Red’s a duck hunter. He loves a good decoy. Same thing he did with Chris Bell last year after hitting 8 3s first half against NC State.

I think it is less surprising when you consider how he got the first half points. He only had one clean catch and shoot 3 on a pass from JJ. The rest were all looks that he created for himself. It wasn't our other players rotating the defense all over the place leading to open looks for him.

It seems like this would be more doable when (if?) Freeman is healthy. Right now Souare would be the next person up to be in instead of Kyle. I'm not sure how good of a FT shooter he is?

Agreed -- which highlights how generally unstructured our offensive concept is.

I don't know -- seems to me like when somebody is scoring [and as a team, we struggle to score], that somebody might want to make a concerted effort to pass them the ball. Just struck me as odd.

Minor quibble, given the outcome.

Lack of structure, plus George being seriously ineffective at the point against tough competition. Could count on one hand the amount of times he got any sort of step on his defender last night.

Souare shot .313 for free throws at Georgia Tech in limited minutes - Kyle was better believe it or not and has improved his free throw shooting here from his numbers at UCLA.

They ran a bunch of screening actions for Kingz, including pin downs and flares, in the first half. But then stopped doing that as much in the second half. We got out in transition and had some awesome fast breaks with lobs and dunks, but the half court offensive movement and cutting got worse and stagnated. I agree with others that the team needed to look for Kingz more in the second half, and he also needs to be more aggressive.
