Kudos to Mike Waters

The P-S won't do anything about it.

Sad, because they could easily fix their "commenter" problem in a few minutes.

It has been like this at the PS from, I think, the very beginning.

In 1998 or '99, the person in charge of the syracuse.com site moved on to another job (the New Jersey Newhouse outlet ?). Many of the (comparatively) saner posters had been agitating for some controls on the site. The administrator, on his way out the door, posted that he had tried to get something as simple as registration, so that he and the site could block at least some of the idiotic comments. He said he was constantly rebuffed by management, who, he concluded, were only interested in clicks. Nothing has changed.

I think his name was Dave Liss. I used to be a regular over there around 99-00. Good times.

They really should follow the lead of CNN/NYT and just abolish comments altogether.

They seem not to have any trouble blocking most of my posts!

Friend of Kramer's.

Chaaz Reinhold seemed just as bad.

I joined the group when we were still on Syracuse.com. It got so bad there I can't even post an example of the racist stuff I was reading that caused me to jump ship with the rest of the group. if you said anything positive you'd be set upon by trolls like they were army ants.

What can they do? (I'm ignorant>) They would have to take off 3/4 of the comments on every single article they print! Man, the comments section is the devil's lair. Never go there!

Only allow paid P-S subscribers the ability to post comments ... and your screen name is the name attached to the subscription.

You'd be amazed how much the "douchbaggery" level drops when people can be identified by their friends, neighbors, co-workers, priests, etc...

Yeah, don't talk to me about Bob Sacamano, I have three kids, thanks to him and his defective condoms.
And I thought I had it bad thanks to Sacamano Senior and that crappy Willard he gave me for my birthday. Tipping like crazy over here!

Yep, the parent company, Advance Publications, would not allow for people to be banned or any kind of ip tracking and the such. It was a mess.

The comments section is bad alot of places. Try going to the syracuse message boards on the 6 letter r site or the five letter S site.

Its laughable our message board is like dead there just a fan or two of other teams that drops by to attack our program. Yet they want you to pay to join that board without deleting that garbage.

I'm guessing the 6 letter word is Rivals, what's the 5 letter word?

They could do what ESPN did and make you link your account to a Facebook account before posting. That DRAMTICALLY dropped the troll posting.

The problem with this approach is people will see your views. People are full of bigotry and prejudice. I would hate to not get a job because someone used google to find out I'm an Orange fan. Sometime anonymity is a good thing! I won't make comments if they force me to link it to my facebook account.

Well I live in Syracuse, so I don't believe I'll have to worry about that. Anyways, all someone would have to do is look at my Facebook account to know I'm a Syracuse fan. I don't need to link my account to ESPN for them to find that out.

A moderator assigned to delete troll posts on message boards once ortwice a day shouldn't be that hard to find. Howbout once a year even?
