I think it was a change because it was too hard to tell in a pile if the blockers were pushing defenders or the ball carrier. I'm cool with it. I always thought the old rule was stupid. "Hey you guys. You can push each other, slam into each other at a dead sprint, and drag each other to the ground, but don't you dare shove your teammate carrying the ball."I don't know the rules now but when I officiated high school football aiding the runner was a penalty. If you're going to allow the tush push, which I find ridiculous, then why not get a small female gymnast to play running back and have 2 players pick her up with the ball and throw her over the line of scrimmage?
Imagine what she could do while still in the air before sticking her landing!
I believe throwing another player may still be illegal. The question is, should it be?
