I was thinking about this today for some unknown reason. What year(s) in the past 20-25 have we been the last remaining undefeated team? I know it has happened at least once, but can't remember the year or who we lost to. I think we were 18-0 or 19-0 before we went down. My senile brain needs a refresh. Appreciate it.

We were 19-0 in 1999-00, and then again a couple years ago.

I don't know if we were the last one either time, though. Maybe 99-00.

20-0 in 2012. We were definitely the last undefeated team and ranked #1.

18-0 in 2011. I don't believe we were last though. Peaked at #3. Then lost four in a row.

The 99-00 was the year I was probably thinking about. With how good Kentucky was I wonder if it might have been them in 11-12. Thanks for the input guys.

A fun bet is ... which will last longer ... a team without a defeat... or a team without a win. I've had that bet with Fishy a few times. Oddly, both strings seem to come to an end at about the same time.... in early January (when teams start playing those in their own conference).

i am almost positive we were the last unbeaten in 99-00 and in 2011-2012.

in 2011-2012, kentucky definitely lost - because we overtook them for #1.

yUK lost at Indiana that year I think.

Someone went way past us in 2000, I think. Want to say Stanford and Cincinnati, both went to about 25-0, maybe? When we lost our 20th, we were only ranked 4th and at least two of the teams ahead of us were unbeaten.

It happened while we were actually playing a game at the dome (pitt maybe)? The dome erupted and the student section started chanting "were #1."

George Washington. Was fun, nice pre-finals crowd.

love how no one knew what to call the round of 8 as recently as 2000.

some called it the great 8 - some called it the elite 8.

are you thinking stanford and st joes? that wasnt in 2000... that came later.

stanford lost on jan 8 in 2000.

Yes, we were definitely the last undefeated team in the '99-00 season. I specifically remember reading an article about it at the time and thought it was so cool to see that.
Here's one article about it after we beat St. John's to move to 18-0:

I see. Stanford lost to Arizona (who was then in the top five) but then didn't lose again until March. They were #1 or #2 for that whole period, but you're right - they weren't undefeated as long as we were.

I thought Cincinnati didn't lose until the opening round of the conference tournament, when Kenyon Martin broke his leg, but they must have been a one-loss team in February (looking it up now, I see they lost to Xavier in the fall, then went on a long winning streak through conference play). Can't remember who the third team was.

Funny to see how Syracuse was perceived in the pre-championship, post-probation college basketball world. No way that an unbeaten 2014 Syracuse team would be ranked #4 behind three teams with one loss, including a West Coast team and a non-power conference school.

We definitely did not get as much respect as we deserved that particular season. I remember how everyone went nuts and stormed the court after we beat UConn in January 2000. I think we were #4 and they were #6, and that win felt like it sort of validated just how good we really were and shut up a lot of the naysayers. Granted we started sliding a bit after our first loss of the season, but we were definitely better than a lot of people were giving us credit for.

Still one of my best Dome memories. Best Dome crowd in the 1997-2002 era.

Looking at that team now (one of my all-time favorites), it's incredible to see the strides our program has made in the last decade-plus. It's difficult to pin down too many 2000 guys who would start -- or even get minutes -- for this year's team (and this is thought of as a pretty green bunch).

Etan's the obvious pick. Beyond that, Hart would probably start over Ennis, but Ennis would likely get a lot of minutes. Brown, Bland, Blackwell? No way. Shumpert would earn some minutes, but not too many (since he's strictly a forward, and we're all full at that position). DeShaun and Kueth would be last resorts, probably buried alongside Ron Patterson. Billy Celuck, nope.

In short, Syracuse is looking good right now.
