the Rockies fan publicly accused of using the “n” word, when he was trying to get the attention of the Rockies mascot, “Dinger”.
That type of allegation, made publicly when false, is actionable, and should produce a large award.
If you are going to publicly accuse someone, you better be sure.

For a lawsuit you have to prove there was harm, and without revealing the fan's identity, it is tough to say he was harmed

I actually think the Rockies handled this fine, and the media was at fault for blowing it out of proportion (of course). If you listen to the video, it sounds an awful lot like the "N" word. Then the Rockies investigated further and discovered he was yelling at the mascot.
