It is sad when a talented kid for whatever reason does not mesh with the scheme and staff and cannot find his way on the field to become a big contributor.

Tyrell has a lot of talent. I hope he find a good home where he can get a lot of playing time and show what he has to offer. Thanks TR, good luck at your new school!

Annual reality check for me and my recruit expectations as I was convinced he was gonna be a diamond in the rough. Wasn't to long ago there were predictions that Tyrell was gonna team with Trotter and Fagan as 3 year starters for the defense. How a few years can change things.

Wish him well. Go Orange!

I still consider him a good 'croot and decently impactful player. He saw the field some and when he did, seemed to make things happen. It never materialized into being the consistent force we thought it could be, but the dude had some big plays. More so than some guys we're happy with that play a lot more.

Somewhat like JJ Johnson from North Syracuse, great on special team's, couldn't pick up the defensive scheme.

Loved him on specials. Made tackles, and had a way of getting under the opponent’s skin.

Good luck to Tyrell. I always liked him when he was rushing the passer. His pass coverage left a lot to be desired but he was a work horse when he got to get after the QB. I was hoping he could put it together but there are better, more well-rounded options with potential at LB right now.

Makes sense talented guy who could probably use a change. We're deep enough that I doubt he would have gotten a ton of snaps next year. Best of luck to him.

So linebacker depth just took a hit. Maybe we look to add a body here since kpogna is also suspended

i think they like their young LB's, Its still one of the deepest positions they have.
Especially when you consider the freshman coming in and the size those guys already have as well. Still Lots of options moving forward.

Yes, surely a big reason Tyrell left is because he was beaten out for PT by younger players. He has some talent and I hope he finds a place where he can play a lot and be a big contributor.

Gonna miss him on special teams. Good luck Tyrell. Forever orange!

Always felt like Richards's best position was DE. Not sure that he's a system fit at the position at his size, and he's not as good as several of the young LBs if he shifts there.

Too bad -- he was a very good special teams contributor, too [which is a very, very important role -- especially for a team like ours when ST can give us any slight edge in games].

Wish him the best.

Yes, I think this is where he got PT very early in his career. But that was with the old scheme, which put more of a premium on quickness and athletic ability than the new scheme, where it looks like at a minimum, you need to be over 250 pounds to get any run. Ideally 6'4 or taller and 275 or more.

With the old scheme, I think he would have at the least been a successful pass rushing specialist DE. Another guy who did not benefit from the move to the 3-3-5.

Yup. This.

He's got a DE's game in a LB's body, which doesn't work for our new scheme.

And I can't blame him for wanting to do more than ST's and spot backup duty.
Hope he kills it wherever he lands.

Who finds a new team first, Tyrell or Jawhar Jordan.

As others have said, he's a victim of the system change. Guy was a special team's demon and I think one of the better all around athletes on the team.

Typically not one for hyperbole, even though if there ever was a place for it, it's here. But I would not be surprised at all to see this guy play on Sundays in a couple years.

I think he has the potential to contribute as a 3-4 OLB with limited coverage responsibilities, and I could absolutely see him earning a roster spot as a UDFA ST ace.

Understand why he's moving on, but I'm sad to see him go.

I agree with you and sutomcat. Ive always felt Tyrell looked more natural as a 4'3 DE. He didn't add the weight through the years and he seemed more committed to playing linebacker.

Not related to your post, but awesome handle.

Out there somewhere is a VHS tape containing footage of a 5 year old DMDMD in his chiefs uniform PJ's with the plastic helmet running around yelling "Steve DeBerg!!!!" during the unforgettable 1990 season.

Steve deberg, while being a bit before my time, was a folk hero amongst my peers in university. best backup/ journeyman QB ever and a fun guy to play with in techmo!

Let's see: They have Jones, Linton, Thompson, Wax, Cantin-Arku, three freshman who redshirted (Goulbourne, Sparrow, Lowery) and then three more coming in. I'd say they are ok for depth?

My understanding is Jordan has a destination but is finishing up some academic things before announcing.

I don't know that for sure, that's just what I've read in the tea leaves from some other people's posts.

Is this not the truth? Let me be politically correct here...he left the team during spring ball, a team that finished 1 - 10, a team for which he could have helped. No need to sugarcoat situation! Like I said, Good Luck and thanks for all his past contributions to the team.
What does political correctness have to do with it? The kid left, he had his reasons. So why the need to presume & judge his decision? This doesn’t have to be about being PC, it’s more about not being a jerk. JMHO

It's unfortunate that he had to miss spring practice wherever he lands. I do wish him the best, unless he goes to Rutgers or an ACC Atlantic team. Which I understand is about a negative 74% chance.

I honestly loved him at backer more cause he was a downhill guy and big.
