Leading the country in turnovers gained

We also have to be SOS for teams with 3 games played by a wide margin. Obviously someone like Missouri will be top overall only playing Bama.

No doubt the positive turnover ratio is what kept us "hanging around" as long as we did in the UNC & Pitt games as well as the probable reason of getting the W against GT with their 5, along with their 15 penalties.

Not all penalties are the same.
There was a blatant DPI that Hackett drew, because he had his man beat and it was going to be a TD.
So the defender held him - which frankly, is a very heady play by the Tech guy.

Also - they overcame like 10 of those penalties all in the one drive, where we had them at 1st and 35, and then 2nd and infinity, and they managed to get most of it back on a big pass play, then converted 3rd and 4.

Holding calls are somewhat ‘forced’ by an aggressive, penetrating D.
(that’s what she said!)
Ditto for false starts.

It wasn’t like Tech was a total derp-fest all day.

When I was in high school I had one responsibility on this particular play as a safety...it was covering the tight end. The other team was never passing (dating myself..the 90s were 90% running plays) so I kept cheating up and getting tackles on the running plays. All of a sudden they ran a pop pass off play action (good call as the OC probably saw me running up like a moron on every running play) and the tight end was running right by me in the seam so I grabbed him and it resulted in a tackle in the open field significantly before they threw the pass his way. Every official on the field threw a penalty flag. My coach was mad at me because I blew my only and most basic assignment. Yet in my defense it was a sure thing touchdown if I had not tackled the guy in the open field. I tried to hold him:) I am surprised the tight end didn't punch me or start a fight. It was his only target the entire game. That play by the Georgia tech guy was a smart play. Honestly, I am surprised it does not happen more in the college game as pass interference is not a spot foul.

I hear ya. Just pointing out that a team picked to finish last in the league and is said to be in a "rebuilding" year has practically zero wiggle room if they're going to be successful. Something we know all too well as well. So, undoubtedly, in my opinion, the combination of 5 turnovers along with those 15 penalties epitomizes shooting oneself in the foot.

So - you ascribe ALL of those turnovers and penalties solely to Tech, and not at all to what Syracuse did?
Gotcha.

Glad you are clear and at peace with your personal interpretation based upon your own thinking.

Gotta think/hope that White being closer to his mother will help entice him to stay. Hopefully SU also makes it an easier decision compensation wise.
If this was Clemson, they'd have already built a "mother's penthouse" addition to White's current home, without a permit and off the tax ledger.

Undoubtedly - we have talent... but I’m amazed at what Tony White has accomplished thus far.

And the counterpoint will be yardage surrendered, but if we’re getting turnovers and our defensive ppg is giving us opportunities to win games despite our offense, that’s all I need.

if this sustains, we will need to make sure Monroe, White and other proven commodities stay Orange.

Through all of our defensive bs and adventures from day 1, monroe has done a phenomenal job not only recruiting great talent but ch coaching them up.

The main thing with INTs is whats causing them.. QBs being forced into bad throws you can sustain.. QBs making bad throws to open guys is harder.. Much like the 2 INTs that TD has thrown had very little to do with the D and more on the QB. The GT kid was getting hit from multiple spots, balls were getting tipped and we dropped 1-2 more as well. This D causes some confusion and they were talking on the ACC network about it today.. Yeah we gave up yards, but not only because of huge holes, more missed tackles and bad angles.. Those things you can and have to fix to be a solid D.. now we have 3 weeks of film, lots of guys playing solid minutes and 2 weeks off to make it better..

The Defense has been great! Of course they have the benefit of being new to our opponents. In a year, teams will have a better handle on our tendencies and weaknesses. Of course, the hope by then is that all of these young players are even that much better.
