The unfortunate news that we received yesterday should serve as a constant reminder of how awful the recruiting process can be. I would love to see someone compile a list/article of blue chip recruits (there are better researchers and writers than me) who didn't make it to Syracuse over the past 10 years.

Off the top of my head...Nduka Onyeali, Ishaq Williams, David Oku, Andrey Baskin, Xavier Lee, Cecil Howard, Joe Dailey etc. etc.

Maybe seeing that list will put into prospective the difficulty that this process has on the lives of all who are involved with this process and the unlikelihood and long odds it takes for a kid to commit, sign and be a star at your school.

The big difference with RW and a lot of those kids you mention is that RW had all the big time offers and still chose Cuse. Most of the guys just had strong interest and never chose Cuse. The guys that did commit and didn't make it are a total different group entirely. RW situation is not similar to any of these.

We had a commitment from Michael Vick ... for about 48 hours anyways.

I would put Onyeali and Vick in the same category as RW as both had many offers and were either committed or close to committing.

Onyeali, Ishaq Williams, David Oku, Xavier Lee, none were committed to Cuse. Academic casualities are almost the same thing.

Kids like Ray Rice, Courtney Green, Gus Edwards, Joe Daily, Harold Brantley, OJ Smalls, Dallas Baker, those were big decommits. Some in hindsight some not.

Outside of Vick one of the biggest recruiting battles I can ever remember losing straight up was Jammi German. But as was the norm back in Miami's heyday there was likely some funny business going on.

If memory serves, German flew up for a official visit, saw snow on the ground, and flew right back home.

I would add Tamba Hali to this list - still painful to me.

I will be surprised to see him playing D1 (or whatever you want to call it) football at all next year. He's nuts if he thinks the schools that were at one time are interested in him, still are. Too many burned bridges, and too much drama, all which he created, and none of that is related to anything regarding his family situation, which doesn't deserve to be discussed on a public forum. I am only talking about the unnecessary Football/recruiting related drama that he has been a part of.

I hope he finds peace, no matter where he goes. He may not have handled everything well, but by all accounts he is a good kid that is going through some tough things right now.

No one cried when Tyus Battle decommitted from Michigan.

Glad he did it now rather than a week before signing day.

Demonstrating once again how meaningless football recruiting commitments are...especially those given so far in advance of signing day.

he was the only one that I got visibly upset about. I think we win it all with him.

Chad Kelly had zero interest in coming to SU.

Who is the big runningback at UCF that Marrone had recruited but, after Marrone left, he chose UCF and demolished people as a freshman?

They are far from meaningless. Gets fans excited. Helps build momentum externally and internally. I'm bummed it fell through - but the positive "juice" from his commitment was a nice balm for last year's itch

Latavius Murray, starting for the Raiders now. He played at UCF, but it was while Marrone was still here. There were rumors he wanted to transfer to Syracuse. The RB that went elsewhere after Marrone left is Gus Edwards, who plays for Miami.

Taking the high road and wishing this young man well wherever he lands. I think SU would have been a great fit for him if it had worked out. It's a pity the de-committing was delayed so long however. The timing leaves SU in a difficult position, [edit removed) although there are rumors HCSS knew several weeks ago.

Here's hoping we get another talented RB who genuinely wants to be here (if he's not already here or in the 2016 class).

Based on the interview that Robert's dad did with Dan Tortora, man...what a bizarre situation. I loved Robert's talent, would have loved seeing him play for SU. But I said it yesterday, a big part of me is relieved to be free from any potential drama and baggage that he'd bring with him. It's such a weird situation.

Yah talented kid but the 4-star drama is no fun for anyone. And NFN, but how can you blame the staff for talking with your parent? It's not exactly the norm that tweeting or calling someone's dad creates a "trust issue". Strange indeed. Obviously more to this story than what's in the public domain.

Isiah Stanback. He's still a beast. Should have a huge year.

Just another name on paper that never made it campus. This is why it's pointless to get too excited about HS kids verbally giving an unbinding commitment. I gave LOTS of girls verbal unbinding commitments back in HS, as I'm sure many of you did as well.

Seriously. Smith had to keep in touch somehow, and you don't party with the player and forget the parent. He did the right thing.

That's just insane to me. I would have MAJOR concerns about this even if he were still committed.

Yeah, I really don't get this. I've decided to forego my senior year. Of high school.

Or did he graduate in 3 years?

I haven't followed all of this close enough, but how weird...
