On the other hand, high school track numbers are accurate, especially at the State type competitions.  If a kid has a very fast 100 meter time, you know he has terrific top end speed, but it doesn't tell you much about his football speed and nothing about his quickness. The same thing with a 40 time actually... I am not sure why it became the standard.

For a recent example: The portal out DT Nwokacha had a very fast 40 time... Ridiculous for a DT actually.  But when you watched his film, he had a second gear that took a long second to kick in.  He would be "Oh, a guys ahead of me" and suddenly get faster and catch skill position players from behind.  His 40 time was probably legit, considering how fast his top end speed was.  That second gear helped him not at all here at Syracuse. He couldn't get off the bench.  But it made for some really impressive highlights in his junior college tape.

Anyway, Allen seemed to have adequate but not great game speed at the college level.  He might have enough speed to play at the next level, considering his other skills.  We aren't privy to his actual laser timed 40 speeds.  It wouldn't help the team to release it, and any numbers from recruiting threads are likely inflated, just like heights and weights on a roster.
