Totally non scientific here.

Seems like guys going UP a level appear to be more successful than guys going sideways or down on your high end level (Kessler being the one obvious exception)

Think it would be wise to look for guys who were good at a lower level vs former high ranked recruits that didnt work out on their first team.

yeah every case is different...though the players who finnaly get that p5 chance are probably going to be uber dialed in and motivated...but with that...have to make sure the athleticism isnt an issue

jimmy for example kinda struggled at times with lack of footspeed

I will add in that hopefully kids in the portal see that a lot of guys didn't have a grass is greener outcome to an element of your point. QG had a worse season, KR had probably a season not quite as good here.. and so forth. CoVid prompted change yet not many got life changing results.

yeah at least anecdotally I agree with this - those guys moving up seem super hungry to prove doubters wrong/take full advantage of performing on a bigger stage

you need to watch a lot of mid major tape. ask where were we weak ? who does this well ?

i think i made this exact same post one year ago..

also if a player failed at a p5 team...they probably have the athleticism but lack the "between the ears"

which is an undesirable thing in a player imo

although...you can see that swider and symir kinda fit that scenario...had some troubles figuring out with previous teams...but got a lot better towards the end of the year.

the team definitely peaked at the end of the season just snakebit by injuries...(which i predicted due to short roster)

thing about portal players is its likely they wont be firing on all cylinders until around march...takes them a while to figure out how to play the system etc

so a player who isnt mentally strong in terms of bbiq, like a p5 washout is more likely to be, imo, is more of risk perhaps (depending on role)

Any chance someone like Jeenathan Williams from Buffalo and a Rochester native (avg’d 19 and 5 this year) takes a ride down the thruway to play a 5th year at a bigtime program on a bigger stage?

He’d slot in nicely at the SF spot.

I’d also like to see Syracuse native Mika Adams-Woods portal to the Cuse. He be a great get if we don’t land Mintz

He starts, is a very good ball handler known more for his defense than offense at Cincinnati. He was close to Buddy, Girard , they all played AAU together.

Ball handler/defense? Yes please. We’d have like 7 more wins if we had another good ball handler/defender, this year.

Only if they were given playing time.

lol you only get one transfer where you don’t have to sit out a year.
I’m still bummed over that one.

He’s the ideal zone defender/3 point shooter that doesn’t do anything dumb, that would’ve been rock solid as a senior - even moreso as a 5th year senior. Like a less explosive/dynamic Southerland.

Well, pretty much everybody is less explosive than Southerland. ;)

Sadly he lost his starting spot at Charlotte. He had started 10 games losing his spot in mid January. For a forward his rebounding numbers are pretty poor. He’s averaging a little under 20 minutes playing time there with 1.4 rebounds - he is a good 3 point shooter though. I never heard that he was a defensive ace and it doesn’t appear that Charlotte thinks he is either. A role as a spot up 3 point shooter in certain matchups, seems to be his destiny unless next year he takes a big jump. Boeheim said he talked to him to get him to stay - too bad since his role didn’t change much at Charlotte, he did get around 8 more minutes a game early mostly because of those 10 games he started.
