It seems like this was discussed as nauseam somewhere but its Thursday and I still have no idea if I can watch the SU - Liberty game at home. I have DirecTV and its great to get the ACCN but this game is not on ACCN. I have almost always been able in the past to watch on ESPN3 via my laptop which I connect to my TV. But apparently this game is not on ESPN3 either, only on ESPN+?? Since I do not subscribe to ESPN+ am I hosed? I'll do whatever dance I have to but hate to pay if I don't have to. I also have a Firestick but it doesn't seem to be involved in this situation. It seemed like every non-network game used to be streamed on ACCN via ESPN3 but no longer? Seems a little like 1 step forward 2 steps back.

Liberty owns the TV rights to the game. You will not run into this ESPN+ issue after this game for football or basketball.

Never understood this liberty owns the rights. I’ve always thought the networks own the rights. We’ve had games where we didn’t know if it was going to be on network tv or ESPN or espn2 or 3. We didn’t make the call. And if liberty has a say there’s no reason Espn couldn’t give them money to allow for showing on the accn.

And if it can’t be on the accn then maybe the gtown b-ball game can’t be either.

Networks own the rights but it depends on who owns the home teams "rights". For example if SU was playing Rutty on Sat, the B10 would own the rights and the came could be on the B10 network if their TV partners didn't claim the game first. If it were Rutty at SU, we would own the rights and the game could be on the ACC network. SU and Liberty have no call where the game is televised regardless of who the home team is. The only control teams sometimes have is gametime if its a lower tier game and there are multiple potential time slots.

You sound like your saying Espn made the call to put it on espn+.

Since Georgetown is a Big East game, I can guarantee it won’t be on ACCN.

Look for it on CBS or FS1.

As an Independent they like have some sort of auxillary deal with some networks including ESPN. So yest it was definitely ESPN's call to put it on ESPN+.

We tried really hard to get it moved to either ESPNU or ESPN2 but had no luck.

I figured Liberty lobbied hard for it, tough being such a new program.

Correct but its not an ACC home game, as such unless Liberty and ESPN sign off on it (they wouldn't) the game cannot be on the ACC network.

Espn owns the accn. They can do what they want. Liberty signed with ESPN and that article even says ESPN could put any of their home games on espn+ or espn2 or the U. So why not accn even if Espn has to throw them 20k. My point is if Espn wanted to they could have.

There are only 3 windows for ACC games on the ACCN for Saturday. Which ACC team do you kick off to accommodate Liberty?

All 3 games involve ACC home teams.

That’s a better argument than anything. So our game should have been moved to Friday night and tell Wake they are playing Thursday night. Problem solved.

ESPN would then likely owe a % to the ACC as I am sure the ACC gets some $ for every game shown on the network. Also as I noted the ACC doesn't own the rights to the game with SU being the road team, there ar the mercy of liberty and there tv partners

Again, they are at the mercy of the tv partners which is Espn, who owns the accn. But OX made a better argument why not.

Correct but your confusing the ACC network with ESPN there separate entities in this case. ESPN has a deal with Liberty as well, there not going to put a Liberty home game on the ACC network. It would be like SU playing Oregon State at home and the game being on the Pac 12 network. It didn't matter if the ACC network had 10 openings that day, the game was never being put on the ACC network.

Both Espn+ and accn.
