They call it "modified double elimination". The undefeated team in the final is knocked out with a single loss in that game. I guess they figure that the team from the winners' bracket has a pitching edge, so it's fair overall.So the LLWS is more repechage than double elimination?
The real reason is TV, of course. ESPN wants to be able to slot a championship game at a specific time, and not have to worry about an extra game should the undefeated team lose for the first time.
