That is not going to happen. Why? because it would be a ridiculous hire. A high school coach for a job like Syracuse? To give you an idea how hard it is to get even an interview, a number of years ago, Lowell won the d-2 national title. The Umass job came open. And the Lowell coach couldn't even get a interview.

UMASS is dumb. You have to hire the right person, no matter how old, or young they are.

Stan Van Gundy made it from Umass Lowell to the NBA.
If we have to hand the program off to a former player and Hop says no Blackwell absolutely makes the top 5 and likely top 3 list of potential candidates.
When our last coach left us to go coach basketball in a friggen football dome (who plays basketball in a dome) we did pretty well handing the program off to an unproven former player.

You way oversimplified Stan Van Gundy's path to the NBA. He didn't go from UMASS-Lowell to NBA head coach overnight. College athletics has changed just a little bit in the past 40 years. You will never - ever - see a high major P5 basketball program hiring a local high school head coach. Hell, they wouldn't even hire the coach of the top prep school team in the country. It's ridiculous to even have this discussion.

Sure. But I give him an interview. Boeheims Army could have chosen a lot of other guys to coach them the fact they chose Blackwell says something. If the pool of candidates is former players sans Hop IDK who we go with.
