THIBODAUX, La. - It figures. Charley Loeb a Syracuse senior who has yet to start a game and has thrown just five passes in his college career, won the Manning Passing Academy’s Quarterback Challenge here Saturday night at Nicholls State University.
Loeb, a 6-foot-4 lefty, was one of just four college quarterbacks from a group of 40 who hit all three moving golf carts in the first round. The first cart travelled across the field from 5 yards away. The second cart moved across from 15 yards away.
The third cart sped down the left sideline on a go route.
Besides Loeb, Georgia’s Aaron Murray, Kentucky’s Morgan Newton and Andy Walsh, a backup at Division III powerhouse Wabash last year, hit all three carts in the first round.
In the final round, only Loeb again went 3 of 3 to win it. Unlike the other quarterbacks in the competition, Loeb didn’t go through the dropback steps before throwing. He simply stood stationary and threw. In other words, while Loeb’s smarts and accuracy cannot be underestimated, NFL scouts are likely to remain more enamored with Matt Barkley, even though the USC hit just one of three carts in the first round.

He's has had plenty of practice at SU. Who has time to drop back with our O lines?

Too bad Charley missed the boat on last summer's trick throwing YouTube video fad. It sounds like he has the arm for it.
