Two things:
1) Bees mentioned this, but look down for the chat room functions at the bottom of the page.
2) In that same bar, there is a chat function that basically mimics FB chat.
3) there are some other social media functions (Google Plus, Twitter, FB).
Also, after clicking into a thread:
1) there is a nav bar on the bottom and some easy social media share functionality.
The more this site and its content are shared, the better the SEO. Your sharing of this site gives it more authority and authenticates it in the eyes of search engines. This is also one of the reasons I want posts to be able to be tagged with keywords.
The more eye balls the more the admins can charge for ads on this site.
