Chris Cenac is who Donnie wants to be (and who we want him to be), shoots it better and forces less
Kid plays a beautiful brand of basketball and is just one of a bunch of freshman across the country who are really impressive (I agree with the assessment that this is one of the best freshman classes in history - and we are fortunate to have gotten a couple of the better ones)
I see that you admire Chris Cenac very much.
But your estimation of his ability compared to Donnie Freeman is completely without merit. Below is a comparative listing of their advanced statistics, per Sports Reference. Note, the advanced ratings all attempt to normalize for possessions, quality of opponents, the other players on your team, etc. They aren't perfect, but they usually are at least within the realm of reality.
Advanced metrics like Freeman better, by a lot. It's early still, but Syracuse has played 4 cupcakes and zero real games. Houston has played 3 cupcakes and 1 real game.
Cenac PER 16 Win Shares .4 BPM 1.1 ORtg 101.4 DRtg 82.4 Average Game Score 7.2
Freeman PER 26.5 Win Shares .9 BPM 7.9 ORtg 126.7 DRtg 76.7 Average Game Score 14.4
Freeman's rate stats all point to a guy who would be a 1st Team All American and Player of the Year candidate.
Cenac's rate stats all point to a guy who is a slightly above average starter.
Cenac might be good, he might even be better than his results so far... But results matter, and results state he isn't nearly the player Freeman is through 4 games.
