After getting buried by WV and Michigan they play OSU next. Randeeee must be on the clock.

Well this will make Pete Thamel happy, Randy will be free to come to Cuse just like he was speculating. Ha! ;)

Maryland was a 10 win team with the Fridge his last season before they pushed him out and hired Randy. Great move.

That was a curious move.

But this was the time when Maryland had doubled down on football in an almost desperate attempt to achieve financial stability. Fridge's success spiked interest in MD football. The Administration added seats to the stadium betting "on the come" that the crowds would continue to come. It was their only way to get the revenue they needed.

They had so much riding on this, they decided to upgrade the coaching and bring in a hotter coach. They shafted Fridge, who was one of their own.

That move failed and they became easy pickings for the B!G.

Maryland left the ACC for the money it needed and for no other reason.

Now they can look forward to getting their asses kicked in football for decades (like Rutgers).

In basketball, they might do well. But no better than they would have done in the ACC.

But even in basketball they are still desperate for dollars. That's why they are eating crow and scheduling Georgetown.

With Indiana actually looking decent right now Rutgers and Maryland are battling for last place in the Big Ten East. Both will likely be looking for new HCs this offseason.

They had the benefit of a 6th year QB last year. He's gone now.

I guess all that AU money isn't making much of a difference.

Maryland has a bum season, Edsall gets the boot, Dwayne Haskins wakes up, realizes his mistake, de-commits, and gives Cuse a call.
"Hello, Coach Shafer? It's Haskins... I think I made a huge mistake... You got room over there?"

I would like to see us schedule them in the future. Lots of alum in the area and great tailgating even tho the stadium sucks.

Maryland is an ideal opponent for SU in every sport.
1, As you point out, there are a lot of SU alumni here.
2. It's a easy trip for SU fans from NJ,PA and NC.
3.They typically aren't that good in football. But they are a "name" school.
4.The weather is a lot better than CNY in the Fall and Spring.
5. There's lots to see and do, much of it free.
6. And it's not that expensive. providing you stay out of the tourist and expense account.
7. There are a lot of recruits here.I'm not a big believer in that as a reason for scheduling opponents, but to the extent it matters this area has a lot of D1 talent.

Maryland should never lack for quality opponents.

There's a ton of alumni here in the area from just about every school. The place is loaded with transient/new college-educated people I see more Michigan sweatshirts here than Georgetown ones.

We are scheduled to play at Maryland in 2019. Would be cool if we played there more often though. The tailgate a couple years ago was great.

I think he'd be more likely to call Florida.

Think Edsall is gone after this season and someone with east coast & FL ties like Schiano gets considered for position unless the U comes a calling for sketchy...

Yeah, I think they get Shady to continue their unbroken bad decision streak.

Schiano is a carnival barker,a charltan, whose success at Rutgiz is way over-stated. He did much of it with promises and lies and with scheduling the dregs.

Maryland cannot be that dumb. They generally do a good job with hiring coachs. Edsall is an anomaly.

It was more complicated than that. It was really a bungled succession plan, one that had been in the works for a couple of years before Fridge's firing. The idea had been that James Franklin would succeed Fridge. He was even announced as coach-in-waiting. When Fridge made it clear that he wasn't ready to retire just yet, Franklin took the Vanderbilt job. Before Franklin left, the AD had even announced that Fridge was coming back for 2011. Then he was fired a few weeks later.
