Looks Like Syracuse Finishes in 2nd Place in Hoops Attendance Again this Year

The ONLY problem with the Dome is the traffic. The past 2 games have been absolute nightmares to get out of the lots. Not enough cops directing traffic, streets closed, 3 lots emptying into one street. We sat in our car after the Marquette game for 45 minutes. Didnt move an inch. Providence was 35 minutes. Normally we get out but for some reason it has been awful the past couple of games.

And BTW it makes no difference if you leave early, stay late, etc. The best way is to park a 10-15 minute walk and not in one of the close lots (that I park in). You get right out no problem.

With that said I still love going. I can't however cant disagree with people to want to stay home, warm, cheaper beer and watch the game in HD.
It appears they have 'optimized' the exit routines for the parking. I think the ongoing construction along Henry St is responsible for someone thinking up better ways to get people out. I hope so.

The plan they are using now, which entails having thousands of cars go south from their parking lots on Henry, east on Standart, south on Stadium Place, west on Oakland, then north on Fineview, so they conflict with all the cars exiting the Standart and Fine Lots, is amazing.

It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't stop all traffic on the south end of Fineview for no apparent reason every other 5 minutes.

There is way too much traffic exiting on Fineview now.

The location of the main Dome parking couldn't be worse; the site is landlocked on two sides, blocked by I-81 and the railroad viaduct on another, and served by only two city streets (Almond and Irving) on the open end. Suburban mis-design in an urban area.

I can see that leaving that location is regularly frustrating, and getting up there doesn't look much easier. We were downtown the day of the Marquette game and took a different route to the Dome - Irving was backed up from East Fayette to Van Buren, and we walked from East Genesee to the Dome at least twice as quickly as the people sitting in cars got up there.

Driving and parking on the western edge of campus is probably the most inconvenient way to get to the games. That'd test the patience of the most diehard SU fan.

It's all relative I guess, but traffic is never an issue in Syracuse, it just isn't. People want to be home to Liverpool in 20 minutes and with after game traffic it might take3--35 minutes. BFD, it's just that it's outside an aging population, most people are to fat and lazy to walk or very irritable blue hairs that need to get home for a Salsbury Steak and a muddled old fashioned. ( I would say a manhattan but I actually enjoy a manhattan)

I like the leaving the Dome, walking to my car, getting into it and driving away immediately. One season I was in one of the lots and it was nothing but frustration getting out and contending with traffic and lack of good traffic controllers.

Now if our game ends at 9 PM I'm home by 9:15-9:20 or 9:30 on Taco nights. If I didn't get them for the wife I wouldn't hear the end of it;)

sitting in a parking garage (Crouse) for 45 minutes after Marq. not moving at all is a problem

once you are out of the garage, traffic is not an issue -- the problems this year have been getting onto the street. It has taken longer to get out of the garage than it has been to commute home.

I agree to an extent. I have no problem when it takes me 25-30 minutes to get home as opposed to my normal 15. That's not my complaint at least. My complaint is sitting in my car for 45 minutes in park because streets are closed and 4 lots are being emptied onto one street with no cop directing traffic.

I park in Standard for hoops. They closed the front entrance of Fine and had the back entrance open for the past 2 games. However they had BOTH Fine lot exits open. That meant that people were leaving the back end of Fine lot and emptying out onto the street that parallels the railroad. That meant the Standard lot people could not get out (one at atime, every other car). Just stupid. Any no cop either at the back end of either lot.

Meanwhile, they think it's a good use of resources to turn off the traffic lights on Waverly and post cops down there instead.

I can't pretend to know a lot about traffic management (and recognize that the neighborhood presents problems that can't be completely alleviated by the presence of traffic cops), but they could do a better job. For starters, unsignaled intersections should probably get traffic cops before they start turning off signals in favor of cops.

One big reason that Kentucky has an edge is they are the 63rd largest city in the USA with a population of 295,803 whereas Syracuse is the 170th largest city with a population of 145,170. That's a difference of 150,633 folks, over twice the the size of our city.

The metropolitan statistical areas are a little more comparable but Kentucky has the edge there too having 25000 more people.

Another thing you have to take into account is that the University of Kentucky has an enrollment of 27, 171 students combine that with grad students it's 34,000. What does SU have 16,000 with grad students?

While what you say is true, it's not just about the students. UK could have no students attend and the place would still be packed. That's the following UK has, much greater breadth than students or people in Lexington. Louisville, for example, has many UK fans (besides UofL), and is only an hour away from Lex. Fans come from here too. That is an advantage UK has over central NY I guess, but Syracuse metro is no small place.
