this is not the NFL, this is college.

ped st & northwestern are so much better than wagner and tulane.

if SS opens it up on monday....then he should be fired by tuesday. for clearly, he would not know What he is doing.

SWC, i know you are not a playstation nation guy, but please...take your stat sheet and shove it.

if this staff, throws Allen under the bus...i GUARANINTEE everyone, he will never have a winning season at Syracuse and he wont see year 4, maybe 3.

and no QB recruit will EVER come here knowing the short leash given.

Yeah, let's ignore the results. That's what stats are.

By the way, I'm the other guy who voted for Allen to start. I'm not ready to give up on him. I'm just saying we need to start looking at the alternative.

I'll take my chances with Hunt. At least give the kid a chance.

Allen may have the better arm but there's no point in having the arm if he's going to throw out of bounds every other play.

you mean other teams may try to run 2 different QBs at us???

no way in hell Allen is out till a Bowl is out of the question.

no.

way.

in.

hell.
no way in hell Allen starts past the Wagner game -- if then.

no.

way.

in.

hell.

why?

because.

he's.

not.

very.

good.

Hunt proved tonight that he is both the present and the future at quarterback for SU. Allen may start vs. Wagner, but both will play and Hunt will again outperform him, proving once in for all he's the better athlete, the better fit and ultimately the better option at QB for GMac's style of offense.

As anyone with a brain and a set of eyeballs knows, Allen has been pretty bad these last two weeks. But I don't see how so many people can definitively say that Hunt should start over Allen. Hunt is clearly a better athlete, but I did not see enough in that one drive to give me confidence that the passing game will improve that much with him in there. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. As Steve said, both should play the next two weeks. Whoever plays better should start against Clemson. Assuming Wagner and Tulane are both as bad as they appear, there is no need to rush to make a total switch to Hunt.

I can live with playing both the next 2 games. But give Hunt some real time. If it is close, Hunt should be playing. If not for this season, for next season. Let him and the receivers built a rhythm to take into next season.

I think I know you and have met you (assuming it's you in your avatar pic).

Logical post.

But it's much more fun toying with all the clueless who think they can not only evaluate talent, but make decisions at such a high level and profile.

Curious to see how the staff works hunt in, I don't think they have a fluckin clue what they're doing.

Allen played bad but, what hunt did was irrelevant.

In fairness to Drew Allen, Cal's QB threw 3 interceptions against Northwestern last week. That being said, I feel the staff has mismanaged the QB situation. Down 21 points in the 4th quarter with Hunt warming up, they put Allen back in the game for one more series and we all know how that ended. Give Hunt some meaningful minutes. Give him a chance to prove himself on the field.

The backup qb is ALWAYS the most popular guy in town...

I agree that backup minutes are irrelevant and that the staff has no clue. If they switch well be having similar conversation in a few weeks.

Game management is half of the battle. I don't care how big an arm a QB has, how tall, how fast or how smart. I care first and foremost about not making mistakes and managing the game. Allen is horrible at this.

He can certainly throw the ball far but what good is that if you can't hit the broadside of a barn.

What good is his size and speed if you can't elude somebody while running.

So far I see:
an inaccurate QB with a big arm who can't run very well
can't sense pressure in the pocket
can't get the ball over the D linemen at 6'5"
can't extend plays
stares down receivers
clearly doesn't go through his checkdowns or other options besides his #1
Doesn't manage the game
shows little command or poise...

...Oh and I forgot, because our coaching staff thinks he can throw the ball, we pretty much abandon the run with a 1000 yard rusher who is bruising and faster than last year.

Are there any bright spots about his QB play?

if it aint broke dont fix it-

drew has staggering assist numbers- why change to a qb who might have lower assist numbers

we also played against a very good volleyball team-they like to spike the ball-drew just happened to be the last player to touch the ball before the spike-

guy is a highbrid- a cross between troy nunes m williams and anderson -big size no head for the game and a strong inaccurate arm-

cant ask for anything more

A new quarterback starts out with 1 TD and 6 interceptions. There isn't a football team in the universe that won't have a quarterback controversy in the wake of that.

Compounding the issue is that his INTs were simply bad passes, not missed catches like threw the hands of receivers type - you can't blame these INTs on the WRs. Plus it doesn't take into consideration how many tipped passes for zero yard plays? Must have been 4-5 both games?

This is the biggest meathead comment yet I have seen in last 24 hours...

Nobody can definitively say that Hunt should start over Allen, true. It seems that we know what we have with Allen, at least up to this point. Bad QB play, unforced turnovers, batted balls.

I would take an unknown starter before I put in a bad one. The QB play certainly can't get any worse.

In simpler terms. Choose known BAD or maybe bad or maybe good.

Start Hunt but give Allen some series too. To his credit Allen has faced tougher competition the first two games. He needs to be evaluated against lesser opponents. Maybe he will improve going into ACC play, but Hunt should get the start. He looked good that last drive. Good command, good flow and tempo. I will like to see if he can continue that through out a game. If he can, then he will be 3 year starter for us.

We have a coaching problem, not necessarily a qb problem. This team has no identity on either side of the ball and special teams is still unacceptable. There is some talent (not a lot) but its clearly not being utilized to its fullest. It looks to me like the coaches needed another month of practice to sort out what our players strengths and weaknesses are and come up with a coherent game plan to exploit those strengths and minimize the weaknesses. Can anyone say the staff exploited any matchups in our favor the first two games? As an example why is Broyld running deep in routes with that set of stone hands of his? Where is Estime? Where are the carries for Smith and PTG? Allen deserves one more start against a cupcake like Wagner-but I agree that Hunt should see the field as well.

Not sure how you can't at least have a Kolter/Simian split. Need to see what Hunt can do and give him some experience. These next 2 games should be a competition for the starting QB job.

I can safely say that I am dumber for having read this post...
If the coaches are that bad a judge of talent that they need to pull the qb so soon we DO have problems.

There's practice performance and there's game performance. Trying to see who is a better game player based strictly on practice is not an exact science. Maybe Allen was better playing against the SU defense. Maybe he isn't the better player in real games. When both get to play in games and get some run, then it's 100% on the coaches.

This. You just can't play a quarterback who can't clear the heads of his offensive linemen 100% of the time. That's basic stuff - throwing overhand and at least getting the ball past the line.

Allen never had a chance on Sat. NW came out and punched us in the face. At that point the whole team was reeling. PSU was a communication clusterf... Allen needs to be evaluated against crap as much as against the cream. I'm disgusted with our QB play but let's get the guy into Dome and see what he can do with his own crowd behind him. I'm all for 50/50 snaps between the 2 but you can't pull Allen yet. You're talking 2 teams who combined for 18 wins last year. All I can think of reading these posts is the Nunes/RJ fiasco, this one then that one. Dome crowd chanting we want RJ then him coming in and throwing garbage. Be careful what you wish for. All you clamoring for Hunt haven't seen him against a real D1 defense(not that I have) so stay objective. Allen def has deer in headlights look but maybe he needs a Wagner to get comfortable. I'm not saying I have answers. After Sat I'm just praying there are some whatever they might be, just reminding people to be objective.

I am very comfortable with the comment above, "I don't have the answers." None of us here have the answers. I'd like to go back and play PSU again and NW again with Hunt and see how we do. MAybe better...maybe worse. I don't know. All I know is right now we have more questions than answers. Hopefully we get some answers on these next two Saturdays.
