This is odd. First I've seen of this. Is Maryland threatening to stay in the ACC? The Louisville President put this out there today.

Hmm. If the exit fee is upheld, I'm wondering if MD can afford to leave. Definitely an odd statement.

It's the L'ville president saying this. Unless he's a complete buffoon I'd venture to guess he knows more about what needs to happen in order to make the move to the ACC than we do.

The writing may be a contingency, Maryland MUST leave before Louisville comes in. At least that is what it sounds like to me. In short, it is formality.

Regardless, if UMD tries to stay, they will have Louisville and the B1G perturbed (probably Rutgers, too as I think they are under the condition of UMD joining simultaneously). They would also potentially face lawsuits from any and all of these schools for lost income, which could far exceed the ACC exit fee as Louisville and Rutgers would be stuck making AAC $$ instead of ACC and B1G $$, respectively.

In reality, UMD has already made their choice and unless something big happens, they will be gone after the academic year ends. Besides, we all know that the BTN will be printing $$ with the new NJ and MD cable subscribers, $50MM+ per school (I know this to be fact because I read it on the interwebs and NOBODY lies on the interwebs!)

They already provided notice they were leaving and we have invited Louisville so we may not need to "kick" them out, though I am certainly hoping Syracuse does just that tomorrow...and on the hardwood...and on the lacrosse field...
