I guess I'm just a traditionalist, but I would rather see more of the retro look than the foolishness on display at Maryland and Oregon.

I guess I don't like them because when I see them I don't see Michigan State.

That's part of the appeal of the uniform - you see something familiar.

These are not at all familiar.

Did MSU really play in these unis at one time?

When I first saw the MSU unis, they looked anything but throwback. The emphasis of black and gold (not traditional MSU colors) looks more like the modern abominations we have seen. While I am writing this the announcer stated that they are Nike Pro-Combat Rivalry uniforms. I checked out the below link that has old college football helmets and going back to 1947, there were no gold MSU helemts.

Yeah, I think it's just Michigan in the throwbacks.

They were terri le. Good thong the teAm was not.

I gouged my eyes out watching this game. Michigan looked like their shoulder pads were painted speedbumps. Mich St's helmets were pretty cool but the rest of the uniforms didn't match and looked horrific.

completely agree. I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw those. There was black "Michigan St" writing on the backs of their jerseys that you couldn't read because it blended in too much with the puke green jerseys they were wearing. Amateur hour up in Mich.

They weren't throwbacks; MSU was wearing Nike Pro Combats

I liked Michigan's. Michigan State's had that trademark euro-trash-garbage-completely-unrecognizable-from-the-original-classic-uniform look Nike has mastered over the years.

Michigan's Adidas-designed 'legacy' uniform vs. Michigan State's Pro Combat Series uniform from Nike.

They are not throwback uniforms, they are throw-up uniforms.

Some day, college football fans are going to look back at this era and see the MSU, LSU, Boise State and Maryland uniforms while scratching their heads and wondering "what were they thinking back then?" I think most of these are done purely for the shock value.

During the Va Tech/Boise St game at the start of the 2010 season, both teams had great unis. Va Tech had the charcoal helmets going.
