I believe, in unfortunate situations like this through "history", decent men and women leaders have said things like this in reaction.

The difference then vs. now, is then they didn't have Jacka$$ reporters out for a name for themselves in some god-awful media universe who'd print that much.

But we do now, so a guy trying to handle all this gets smeared this way. Brutal. Just my opinion.

I think you missed the point. He likely said a lot more than the three sentences that were "quoted", as many others have in the past, but today's reporters have zero professional courtesy and so you have this situation.

I think the cringiest part of that tweet is that the reporter didn’t name her. She’s a footnote in her own tragic death. That tweet indicates her only value is as someone’s daughter-in-law.

I didn’t realize there was a blueprint on how to handle unspeakable tragedy. I also didn’t realize that real men are better equipped to do this.
