Probably bad recollection on my part. Looks like L'ville, Maryland and Gtown have declined NIT bids in the past.

Regardless, I don't think anyone really cares if LSU isn't in the NIT, with the exception of ESPN.

They can't be happy about that.

An article stated that in order to "refuse" the NIT, you have to have done this BEFORE the year started. So its not like they could refuse to partake now because Simmons was academically questionable.

Maybe something is going on behind the scenes. The team looked lifeless against A & M. Maybe they know something about an investigation into Simmons' recruitment? It's a reach but it's odd they're not taking a bid to the NIT.

What investigation? There was nothing shady about them getting Simmons. The coach is his damn godfather.

Good for them, if you think your an elite team ( even though LSU isn't) then make a statement by turning it down and start game planning for next year. No one cares about the NIT anyway so its refreshing to see a school say thanks but no thanks.

Don't want to get hurt patting myself on the back, but I remember arguing on here last spring and summer against folks predicting how great LSU was going to be this season. Kind of glad this came to pass; as I thought, that's an inept bunch. Talented, but not a group of winners.

When you're a recent irregular participant in the Dance, the NIT provides a good opportunity to:

1. get used to playing the post season
2. getting the younger members of the team some more playing time
3. reward the Seniors with more memories and the possibility to go out with a win

Unless there's something else going on behind the scenes, this is a poor move by LSU.

I would've been disappointed if SU had done this... especially after last year. Give the frosh some more experience and give G & TC a last chance.

Didn't hurt Kentucky when they did it several years back.

I don't like any team doing that; it resembles a poor loser. That being said, LSU is no Kentucky. Kentucky starts every year with one goal in mind. LSU just wasn't very good and they should have taken any invite that they could have gotten.

First, good for Ben Simmons. Now he can go work out and prep for the NBA draft. His coach is terrible. There is no reason to participate in the NIT anyway.

NBA won't pay the necessary money for that to happen. They and the players union are fine with a free minor league.

Two-way contracts with an extended roster size (seats 16 and 17) so no vets have to give up any of the 450 roster spots.

Competitive salaries to keep kids here instead of China or Europe so parent teams can scout more easily (and save money to keep the prospects domestic).

Additional round for the draft.

It will just be the very top kids and not impact the kids that are basically sitting in the 30+ range in the rankings.

The NBA just tripled it's media deal. Teams' values are skyrocketing and there is a waiting list for wannabe owners.

If you are looking at Malachi Richardson as a potential 2G for your team, do you want him sitting in the zone for two years and playing out of position or do you want him playing the 2G in the same offense that he'll run when he gets to the show and playing your defensive scheme and being able to build muscle 24/7?

College isn't a free minor league. The only reason they keep this one year rule isn't to protect the players, it's to protect the owners from themselves, just like implementing the Stepien rule.

I think this will have a full buy-in. It will protect vets from giving up roster spots to young kids. It will allow the top prospects to properly be trained for the system to which they are drafted in. It will reduce the resources needed across the globe. It's one thing to scout a young up and coming kid out of Croatia. It's another to try to track a borderline nba-talent in an Italian League just to be the 12th guy on your roster.

Being the LSU fan that I am, completely baffling move that is horrendous. I was looking over the Fired Coaches thread and really looking for Johnny Johnson, former LSU player, too, so I should expect that he will be hard to get rid of like Teflon Les.
