Luke Fennell transferring to St Mary's

I wondered if there was an injury involved. During the latter part of the season, there were a couple of games when Red cleared the bench except for Luke. He didn’t seem to be pouting or otherwise unhappy about it.

In these days of NIL and the portal, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to pay a player to sit on the bench and take a couple of years to develop. Especially at a program that’s trying to turn itself around. There are too many other shiny objects in the portal.

I assume that he’ll drop down a level and then maybe try to develop and work his way back up. Good luck to him.
Hate to break it to you, but St. Mary's isn't a level below Cuse. They've been in nearly every Tourney for a decade, sir.

They definitely aren’t, but dick posted that before the news was Saint Mary’s. He didn’t say Saint Mary’s was a lower level.

Though they just lost their great longtime coach Randy Bennett to Arizona State.

Very true, but Moranga, California might remind Luke of Oz...I was looking at Catholic Schools for my undergraduate degree 2 decades ago, and looking back, I wish I checked out St. Mary's. It's Paradise.

And he took some of his players with him. I'm guessing part of the Australian contingent stayed behind and made Fennell's connection to the college smoother.

I used to live about 2 miles from that campus.

As someone who has attended both St Mary's and Syracuse, I can say there is no world in which St Mary's should be competitive with Syracuse in anything, especially basketball. The mismanagement of SU over the past decade + is profound. Hopefully, we are turning things around at long last.
