Lunardi's treatment of Oregon St

I really don't get the Vanderbilt love, they beat Kentucky and A&M at home, and thats it.

A new update is needed, as Oregon St's amazing Fake12 tournament run has yet to stop. They just keep climbing according to Joe. Their AMAZING win over RPI #100 Arizona St (5-13 in the Fake12) followed by a loss to Cal, has raised them all the way from FIRST TEAM OUT on Wednesday morning to being a 9 seed, and not even being one of the 8 last teams in.

Oregon St has now risen on the S-Curve by at least 9 spots, after beating Arizona St and losing to Cal.
Syracuse has fell by 6 spots after losing to Pitt.

Way to go Joe!! You are very credible.

Syracuse vs. Oregon State

RPI

Syracuse - 71
Oregon State - 33

Sagarin

Syracuse - 40
Oregon State - 58

KenPom

Syracuse - 41
Oregon State - 59

BPI

Syracuse - 39
Oregon State - 61

Average

Syracuse - 47.75
Oregon State - 52.75
Which of these is not like the others?

(And why would anyone use the RPI as a primary rating mechanism?)

I'd prefer the original (Misfits) version

I almost posted that because I knew some would, but this one had the lyrics and the original version was a little more difficult to understand for the common board member ;) I hear you though!

Oregon St's best Road or Neutral win all year (Including Conference Play and the Conference Tournament)

RPI #95 - UC Santa Barbara

Sure looks like a LOCK to me.

Can you help me to understand why USC is getting more love than Oregon State, who have a better RPI and SOS in comparison with USC.

USC's only good road/neutral win was Wichita State. Oregon State's conference wins are far better than USC's. I'd be more upset about USC getting in than Oregon State myself.

But that is just me.

Also, can you explain the love for South Carolina by these bracketologists over Vandy. I actually see Vandy as the better team. Does the South Carolina win over A&M on the road carry way more value than Vandy's wins over A&M and Kentucky at home? SOS between the two isn't even close.

Cheers,
Neil

I have no problem with Usc being ahead of us.

I wasn't asking in relation to us. I was just trying to understand why in two different conferences I see an imbalance between two members where one is supposedly "in" while the other is "bubble".

I'm in the camp that thinks we won't get in.

Cheers,
Neil

Just out of curiosity, what are you basing that on?

As I said in the confidence level thread - I have zero. That way if we don't get in I have mentally accepted it and if we do get in I can whoop it up and laugh at Lunardi. ;)

It's more of a personal approach rather than an analytical one. As I mention above, if I took an analytical one (without any fan favoritism), I'd be ticked for quite a few teams.

Cheers,
Neil

Utah and Oregon are not mediocre.
Oregon has a level above everyone in the Pac12.

P12 was a good conference this year, but I don't think solely winning 10 games int aht conference should be enough to get a team in.

Utah especially. They can do some real damage, imo. Size, guards, and a great coach. They beat Duke with Jefferson in MSG also. The dummies on this board rip teams like Purdue as well.
Purdue has mediocre guard play but any team that faces them that is subpar in the post will get destroyed.

Just to be clear, in no way am I trying to discredit Utah and Oregon in this thread. They are top 15 schools, but not quite in the elite. Like every Pac12 team I think they made be seeded 1 seed line too high, The main thing I am trying to discredit is Lunardi, because of his massive swing on Oregon.

While I have taken shots at the Pac12, it's a pretty good conference. But the RPI's that have been generated create an overinflated view of their teams.

I do have a problem with the Oregom St Resume specifically however.
no road or neutral wins of quality
nothing OOC
3 home wins against Oregon, Utah and Cal is there entire cast.

I am critical of people who see this as a lock.

Well aware. Still I hate when dumb posters (not you) just shun Purdue automatically and most likely have never seen them play. Yeah, if their guards give them even serviceable performances then they will go deep in the Tourney, imo.

Utah and Oregon are not mediocre.

Is Utah that impressive? That beat Duke in what, their first game without Jefferson?

They got obliterated by Miami and lost handily to Wichita State. They've never been competitive against Oregon.

Otherwise, you got Temple, San Diego State and BYU as the resume builders OOC.

Personally I feel Utah has more of a chance to go deeper than Oregon in the Tourney but that's just a gut feeling. Since I'm a USC alum I do watch these Pac 12 games regularly. I don't get the Oregon St. love either.
